Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team was close in each game of the series with George Washington this weekend, but a 3-2 loss gave the Colonials the sweep on Sunday.
The Flyers jumped out to an early lead with an RBI single to left-center by junior
Aaron Huesman.
The Colonials struck back in the bottom half of the inning though with a pair of runs, taking a 2-1 lead at home. A solo home run in the third then made it a 3-1 ball game.
Dayton countered with a sacrifice fly in the top of the third by sophomore
Robbie Doring.
The Flyers trailed by just one run over the final six innings, but were unable to score the tying run. GW took the game and series with a final score of 3-2.
Dayton totaled six hits, including a 2-for-4 outing by Huesman.
Starter
Bradley Horn (L, 1-3) pitched four innings in the start, giving up three runs on six hits while fanning four batters. Sophomore
Nick Gobert came on in relief and threw four excellent shutout frames, allowing only one base runner out of 13 batters faced.
The Flyers (9-24, 2-10 A-10) will return home to host Toledo Tuesday and Akron Wednesday in mid-week contests.
