NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - University of Dayton sophomore
Taylor Vernot was one of six student-athletes named to the 2016 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team Tuesday.

The All-Academic team is comprised of student-athletes who were selected based on their performance in competition, as well as in the classroom. To be nominated, runners must have a GPA of 3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) for their entire academic career. The teams were selected through voting conducted by the league's sports information directors.

Vernot was Dayton's No. 1 finisher in every race she competed this year. Vernot recorded her career-best 5K time at the Atlantic 10 Championship with a time of 17:24.5, the second-fastest 5K time in Dayton women's cross country history. She took fourth place to earn A-10 All-Conference honors. She also recorded a 6K career-best at the Bradley Pink Classic, finishing sixth out of 267 runners, with a time of 21:00.7.

She is majoring in pre-medicine and hopes to become a pediatrician.
