ST. LOUIS– University of Dayton redshirt senior defensive end
Mike Gray was named Pioneer Football League Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Dayton's shutout win over Robert Morris on Saturday.Â
Gray had four tackles, two solos and two assists. Three of his four hits came in the RMU backfield. Both of his solo tackles were sacks, and one of two assists was a TFL. Gray also had two QB hurries.
The Cincinnati Sycamore graduate was part of a Dayton defensive effort that allowed just 62 yards on the day. Even though the game was shortened due to an extended storm system containing severe lightning, the Flyers allowed less than 20 yards in the first (7 yards) and third (18) quarters. It was UD's first shutout in nearly four years.
Gray leads the PFL and is tied for eighth nationally in FCS football in sacks per game (1.25)
He was also named PFL Defensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.
Dayton, now 2-0, goes on the road for the first time this season this Saturday. UD heads to Pittsburgh to take on NEC champion and fellow FCS playoff participant Duquesne. Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon ET.
