WOMEN'S SOCCER CLOSES OUT NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE AT WSU

Flyers Take On the Raiders Sunday at 7 p.m. at Alumni Field

• The University of Dayton women's soccer team (2-5-0) closes out the non-conference portion of its season with a match vs. cross-town opponent Wright State (2-6-0) in Fairborn, Ohio at Alumni Stadium this Sunday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. ET. 

LAST TIME OUT
• Following a 3-1 loss to Nebraska (a team receiving votes in the latest NSCAA national ranking), the Flyers bounced back with a 2-1 win over Omaha on Sept. 11. Sara Robertson scored her first-ever collegiate goal and Libby Leedom had the game-winner. That was Leedom's third goal scored this season. 

UP NEXT
•  Following a bye week, Dayton returns to Baujan Field to open Atlantic 10 play vs. Saint Louis on Thurday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. ET.  It will have been 24 days since the last time the Flyers played at Baujan, their last home match was Sept. 4, a 3-0 win over Purdue. 

FLYER FACTS
• Dayton's leading returning goal scorer is junior Alexis Kiehl (8 goals), who was named to the 2016 A-10 Preseason Team. She was a First Team All-Atlantic 10 forward in 2015.
• Kiehl accounts for four of UD's 10 goals scored this season. She leads the Flyers with nine points (4 goals, 1 assist). 
• After moving to midfielder from a defender to start the season, senior Libby Leedom has scored three goals and has one assist, and is Dayton's second leading scorer this year. 
• Red-shirt freshman Sara Robertson scored her first collegiate goal against Omaha (Sept. 11); freshman Madeleine Morrissey scored her first collegiate goal against Xavier (Sept. 2) and Micayla Livingston scored her first collegiate goal, the game-winner, in her first collegiate start in Dayton's 3-0 win over Purdue. 
• Junior Sidney LeRoy leads the Flyers in assists with three. 
Kaelyn Johns started every game in goal as a true freshman last year. She finished her rookie campaign with 79 saves and a 1.65 GAA. She registered her first shutout of the 2016 season in UD's 3-0 win over Purdue. She has 10 saves and a 1.61 GAA this year. 

THE SERIES
• The Flyers and Raiders have squared off 30 times before with Dayton holding a 22-5-3 lead in the all-time record.
• WSU won the last meeting, 1-0, on Sept. 6, 2015 at Baujan Field. Kaelyn Johns had five saves in that match. 
• The Flyers are 9-2-1 all-time vs. the Raiders when playing on the road. 

SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE
• The Raiders are 2-6-0 overall going into the weekend. They play their conference opener vs. Detroit Mercy Friday at Alumni Field, before taking on the Flyers Sunday night. 
• The Raiders have lost three matches by a one-goal deficit. Their wins are against Saint Francis (Pa.), 2-0, and Fort Wayne, 1-0. WSU started the season with losses vs. No. 13 Notre Dame (3-0) and Ohio State (4-2). The Raiders also lost 2-0 to Bucknell. The Flyers were scheduled to play the Bison but the match was canceled due to inclement weather. 
• Redshirt junior Niki Romero leads the Raiders in scoring (2 goals, 1 assist, 5 points). 
• Senior Katie Ruff has started all eight matches in goal. She has 14 saves and a 1.75 GAA. 

STREAK STOPPER
• The Flyers ended a four-match losing streak with a 3-0 shutout over Purdue (Sept. 4). At that time, it was only the second time the Boilermakers had been shut out this season. The other was a 2-0 loss to then-ranked No. 4 West Virginia. 
• Senior Libby Leedom scored two goals, freshman Micayla Livingston scored the game-winner, Sidney LeRoy had two assists and Alexis Kiehl added an assist in the victory.
• Sophomore Kaelyn Johns recorded a career-high eight saves in the shutout. 

TOUGH START
• The Flyers started the season with three losses by one goal; including a 2-1 setback at Cincinnati (Aug. 19)in which the Bearcats scored with 14 seconds remaining in the second overtime. The Flyers also lost 2-1 at Ohio (Aug. 21) and vs. Kent State (Aug. 28) at Baujan Field. 
 
TERRIFIC TUCKER
• Flyer Head Coach Mike Tucker is in his 22nd season at UD and has amassed an overall record of 306-119-30 overall and 163-31-11 vs. A-10 opponents. 
• The legendary coach announced he will retire following the 2016 season. 
• UD's 3-1 win over Fordham on Oct. 18, 2015 at Baujan Field marked the 300th career victory for Coach Mike Tucker. He is one of just 17 active coaches to have won 300 matches in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer.

A-10 DEFENSIVE POTW HONOR 
Sophomore Kaelyn Johns was chosen as the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 29 – Sept. 4. She had a career day in Dayton's 3-0 win over Purdue (Sept. 4). The Flyer goalkeeper notched a career-high eight saves versus the Boilermakers in UD's first shutout this season. Prior to this match, Purdue had only been shut out by No. 4 West Virginia this season. Johns played all 90 minutes and made quality saves in the fourth, 34th, 35th, 54th and 72nd minutes. Starting with Johns' diving save at the left post in the 34th minute, the Boilermakers had three shots and four corner kicks in a span of about 90 seconds but were unable to break through.

KIEHL EARNS PRESEASON RECOGNITION
• For the second consecutive season, Flyer forward Alexis Kiehl was named to the A-10 Preseason Team.

FLYERS ARE FAVORED AGAIN
• For the eighth consecutive year, the Dayton women's soccer team has been chosen as the Atlantic 10 Conference preseason favorite in a vote conducted by the league's 14 head coaches. The Flyers earned 185 votes and eight first-place votes to take the top spot in the rankings in 2016.

FLYER SUCCESS 
• The Dayton women's soccer program owns an overall record of 430-184-47 since it became a varsity program in 1984. 
• The Flyers made NCAA Tournament appearances in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2014, advancing to the second round in both 2009 and 2010 and to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001. 

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN 
• Dayton's freshmen have a history of making an impact. 
• The Flyers have had at least one representative on the A-10 All-Rookie team every year since it started in 2000.
Beth Kamphaus was named to the All-Rookie team in 2015 after coming on strong in conference play.
Kaelyn Johns started every match in goal for the Flyers in 2015. 
Nadia Pestell started 19 matches for the Flyers on defense and logged 1,474 minutes. 
• In 2014, Alexis Kiehl and Nicolette Griesinger were both named to the A-10 All-Rookie team. 
• Kiehl was the third-leading scorer for the Flyers and Griesinger started every match and led UD in minutes played with 2,135.

CINCINNATI CONNECTIONS
• Nine Flyers are from the Cincinnati area: senior Sarah Byrne, juniors Abby Weigel, Alexis and Kaitlyn Kiehl, and freshmen Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey, Alex Powell, and Sara Robertson.
