D'ERRICO ADDED TO VOLLEYBALL STAFF

Formerly at Louisville, D'Errico was Also a Four-Time National Champion at Penn State

DAYTON - University of Dayton volleyball head coach Tim Horsmon has announced the addition of Alyssa D'Errico to his coaching staff. D'Errico will serve as an assistant coach for the Flyers beginning in 2017.

"We are really excited to add Alyssa to our staff," said Horsmon. "We had a great pool of candidates, but, as we worked through our search and interview process, we believed Alyssa was the right fit for us to continue to grow as a program. She is a proven winner as both a player and coach and has been in great gyms and programs. We really like her composure and have been impressed with her on the recruiting trail. I am excited to see how she attacks that aspect as a Dayton Flyer. Finally, we just believed Alyssa would be a great fit for our student-athletes and our staff. We have a great culture here, and I think she will contribute in a positive way. Alyssa is a great person, and we are looking forward to adding her to our family."

A former professional player and four-time NCAA National Champion at Penn State, D'Errico spent the 2016 season as an assistant coach at Louisville. Prior to UofL, she played three seasons as a libero overseas on the professional circuit, including stops in Spain, Croatia, and France. In 2011-12, she played in Spain for Feel Volley Alcobendas Club in the Superliga and was MVP of the Princess Cup. She continued her career in Split, Croatia, playing for ZOK Split 1700 in the top league, where she helped guide her team to the semifinals, taking a match off perennial powerhouse Rijeka, for the first time in club history. Her final professional season landed her in the top French league (LNV) playing for Istres Ouest Provence Volleyball, helping guide the team to a quarterfinal appearance.

"First, I would like to thank Neil Sullivan, Angie Jabir and, of course, Tim Horsmon for the incredible opportunity to join the Dayton Flyer volleyball family," commented D'Errico. "From the moment I stepped inside Cronin Center, I knew Dayton volleyball was special and unique. However, it was the people I had the pleasure of meeting and interacting with that made this decision a no brainer. I am anxious and excited to get started working toward the big goals Dayton volleyball strives to reach year in and year out. I am beyond thrilled to take the next step in my coaching career with Tim, Evan, Taylor and the entire Dayton volleyball program."

A 2010 graduate of Penn State, D'Errico is the only player in NCAA Division I volleyball history to have won four national championships after winning state championships in her last three years of high school. She was also a part of numerous streaks including the record-setting 109-consecutive-match win streak and a 65-match Big Ten Conference win streak. Penn State was undefeated in Rec Hall (PSU's home court) and won 24-consecutive NCAA tournament matches during D'Errico's time with the team. The three-year captain capped her career with a Big Ten Conference Pre-Season All Big Ten Selection and a post-season Honorable Mention All Big Ten Selection. She finished her career with 1,245 digs (eight all-time at Penn State) and 146 aces (seventh overall). Off the court she earned 2010 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District II team honors, the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year Award, was the 2011 Student Athlete Advisory Board "Above and Beyond" Award Recipient and the 2010-11 Clyde "Pops" Team Award Recipient. The three-time Big Ten All-Academic team led her team to four Big Ten Conference Championships.

After her playing career, she spent a year as a volunteer assistant at Georgetown University in 2012. In other coaching stops, D'Errico also jointly runs US Elite Volleyball Camps (since 2011) with former Nittany Lions Blair Brown Lipsitz and Max Lipsitz. She was appointed the Director of Camper Development in 2012 for TriState Elite Volleyball Camps and serves as one of two head clinicians for their recruiting showcase, in December, alongside Jen Flynn Oldenburg. Highly touted for her volleyball IQ and high-level playing experiences, she was chosen as a clinician for high school and club coaches at both the OHSVCA (2011, 2012) convention and New York State clinics (2014). D'Errico has coached in various clubs including Virginia Elite (2012) and Virginia Juniors (2014), as both an assistant coach and a head coach, respectively, while also serving as a high school assistant coach for the Thomas Edison Eagles in Alexandria, Va.
