SAINT LOUIS -- The University of Dayton football team had six First Team Academic All-Pioneer Football League selections in an announcement by the league office today. The Flyers matched San Diego for the most first team selections.
Redshirt senior linebacker
Jack Crain, senior quarterback
Alex Jeske and senior running back
Tucker Yinger were all named First Team Academic All-PFL for the third time.Â
Crain graduated summa cum laude with a double major in accounting and finance, and is on track to have his MBA by this spring. Jeske is a finance major who carries a 3.76 grade point average. Yinger has a 3.81 GPA, and is a mechanical engineering major.
Junior safety
David Leisring was on the first team for the second straight year. He is also majoring in finance, and has a 3.94 GPA. Defensive tackle
Isaac Sexton and safety
Tim Simon were both named Academic All-PFL for the first time. Sexton's 3.96 GPA is the best of anyone on the Academic All-PFL team. He is a chemical engineering major. Simon's grade point average in mechanical engineering is 3.92.
Crain and Yinger were named First Team All-PFL on Tuesday. Jeske and Leisring were named Honorable Mention all-league.
Pioneer Football League athletic directors established the Academic All-PFL squads in 1993 as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. To be eligible for Academic All-PFL consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00.
