COACH'S COMMENT
"Hot temperatures and a stiff breeze made for tough conditions to race in today," said head coach Jason Ordway. "As the day progressed, the winds picked up quite a bit so by the time our 5K guys got out there, the conditions just were not what we are used to running in and they were less than ideal. Earlier in the day, Chris Negri got the school record in the 1500m and won the meet outright. He ran wire-to-wire with a time of 3:51, which was a record from Mike Anderson. He ran really tough and had everything pay off for him. In the 5K at the end of the day, the guys really put themselves out there and were in a good position early on, but we just didn't have it on this day. We tried to run times we could have hit in better conditions, but we just didn't have it in the heat today. We were trying to get a qualifier for the meet next weekend, but we just came up short. It was nice to see them take a risk and put themselves out there, even though they couldn't finish it off. We learned a lot from this meet, and moving forward, I think we will be better for it. We are looking out to finishing the season out at the Jesse Owens next weekend and the Miami RedHawk Invite in two weekends."
