NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 conference announced its 2017 baseball award winners and All-Conference members on Wednesday morning, with University of Dayton redshirt-freshman

Mitch Coughlin earning honors for the Flyers.
Smith was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie team, while Coughlin earned a spot on the All-Academic team.
Smith finished the season with a batting average of .291, and led the team in home runs (12), RBI (36), runs scored (36), slugging percentage (.576), walks (32), and OPS (1.005). His average as well as his on-base percentage (.429) were both second on the team. The Floyd Knobs, Ind., native exceled during Atlantic 10 play as well, hitting .351 overall and nine of his home runs coming in conference play. An outfielder when he arrived on campus, Smith transitioned to first base this season and committed only five errors in 348 chances (.986 fielding percentage).
Coughlin, who also won the University of Dayton's Presidential Scholar Athlete Award, was named to the All-Academic team for the second straight season. The senior, who held a 4.0 GPA in his master's program, finished the season on a 10-game hitting streak and hit .274. He led the team in stolen bases with 15, and also scored 30 runs, had four doubles, and hit two home runs. Coughlin will continue his education at the University of Notre Dame starting next fall.
Dayton finished the season with an overall record of 20-35 and a 9-15 mark in Atlantic 10 play.
