Women's Cross Country Breaks Top 10 in Great Lakes Region

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Dayton women's cross country team, not only moved into the USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region poll, the Flyers vaulted to No. 9 in the rankings. It's the biggest jump by any team this week, in both the men's and women's polls.

"Our team has been racing very well this season and the move up the regional rankings are a testament to that fact. Our women have been very disciplined this season and it is nice to get recognized for it," said head coach Jason Ordway. "Several other A-10 teams have also made positive moves, and we are looking forward to competing against them in the upcoming weeks."

Dayton is coming off of a runner-up finish at the National Catholic Invitational on Sept. 15. UD finished second, just nine points behind (43-34) host Notre Dame, currently ranked No. 2 in the Great Lakes Region and ranked No. 9 nationally at the time of the race. The Flyers defeated Marquette, currently ranked No. 14 in the Great Lakes Region.

Dayton also won the Queen City Invitational hosted by Xavier on Sept. 2. The Flyers had 19 points compared to second-place Xavier's 50 points. The Musketeers are ranked No. 10 in this week's Great Lakes Region.

The Flyers will next compete in the All-Ohio Championship 6K on Friday, Sept. 29 at the E. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio. Race time is 2:45 p.m. ET.
