#UDWSOC Opens A-10 Play This Week At VCU, Vs. George Mason

The Flyers Play At VCU Thursday And Host George Mason Sunday

• The University of Dayton women's soccer team (5-4-0, 0-0-0 A-10) opens up Atlantic 10 action this week.
• The Flyers open conference play at VCU (4-2-1, 0-0-0 A-10) this Thursday, Sept. 21 at Sports Backers Stadium. Kickoff is 7 p.m. ET. 
• Dayton's A-10 home opener is vs. George Mason this Sunday, Sept. 24 at 12:30 p.m. ET at Baujan Field. 

•  The match will be broadcast on Spectrum Sports and A-10 Network (free video stream) with Mike Puves and former Flyer Nina Vasiliu on the call.
•  Spectrum Sports is a 24/7 sports network found across the state of Ohio on Spectrum channels 1311 HD and 311, whose content is also available on Local on Demand 411. Spectrum Sports is also available in the former Insight areas of central Ohio, on channel 510, and Northern Kentucky, on channels 511 HD and 510.

HOME MATCH PROMOTIONS
•  Sunday, Sept. 24 is Dayton's Club and Campers day.

• The Flyers will be signing autographs following the match.

THE SERIES
• Dayton is 3-1-3 all-time vs. VCU, with three of those meetings coming in the A-10 Championship tournament. The Flyers have lost the last two meetings vs. the Rams: 1-0 last year at Baujan Field on Oct. 9 and 3-2 at home on Oct. 11, 2015.
• Dayton is 3-2-0 vs. George Mason. The Flyers lost the last meeting 2-1 on the road on Oct. 2, 2016.  Alexis Kiehl scored UD's goal in that match. The Flyers are 2-0 all-time vs. the Patriots when playing them at Baujan Field; a 4-2 win on Oct. 4, 2015 and a 3-0 win on Oct. 4, 2013.

SCOUTING VCU
• The VCU Rams are 4-2-1 overall and coming off a 1-1 tie vs. Longwood on Sept. 14.  
• VCU's two losses came against No. 8 Clemson (1-0) on Sept. 1 and Charlotte (3-2) on Sept. 8. 
• The Rams' wins are over Liberty (2-0), Old Dominion (3-1), American (5-0) and UNC Greensboro (2-0). 
• Seven different Rams have scored goals this season and redshirt sophomore Amanda Tredway leads VCU with four goals scored and is first in the A-10 in goals scored per game (.57). *Tredway is from the same hometown (Downingtown, Pa.) as Flyer Kaelyn Johns but attended Downingtown West whereas Johns attended Downingtown East.
• Redshirt junior Audrey Sanderson has a .83 goals against average, has made 23 saves, and has three shutouts at goalkeeper for the Rams.
• VCU is second in the A-10 in goals per game (2.14) and assists per game (1.86). The Rams are also second in goals allowed (6).
• VCU was selected to finish ninth in the A-10 in the preseason poll. 

SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
• George Mason is 3-6-0 overall heading into conference play. 
• The Patriots take on George Washington in their A-10 opener Thursday before traveling to take on the Flyers Sunday, Sept. 24. 
• Junior Rebecca Callison leads George Mason, scoring three goals of the Patriots' twelve total goals this season. 
• Emily Littell, Niomi Serrano, and Amanda Nhek all have two assists to lead George Mason in that category. 
• Freshman Louisa Moser (6 games played/524 minutes) and junior Morgan Symmers (4 games played / 315 minutes) split time in goal for the Patriots. Moser has a 1.54 GAA and Symmers' is 2.00.
• George Mason is second in the A-10 in shots taken with 142. 
• The Patriots have been selected to finish sixth in the Atlantic 10 Conference this year. 

FLYER QUICK HITS
• Seven different Flyers have scored so far this season: Alexis Kiehl (4 goals), Sidney LeRoy, Micayla Livingston (4 goals), Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey, Jordan Pauley, and Sara Robertson (3 goals). 
Kaelyn Johns has started every game in goal and has 40 saves and four shutouts this season. Her four shutouts is second-best in the A-10 this season. 
• UD is second in the A-10 in points (44), with VCU close behind with 43. The Flyers are also second in goals scored (15) and assists (14). 
Nadia Pestell is third in the A-10 in assists with four.
• Head coach Eric Golz is in his first season at the helm of the Flyers. He previously served as an assistant at UD in 2011.

• Dayton will play at La Salle on Thursday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. ET at McCarthy Stadium.

KAELYN JOHNS EARNS A-10 HONORS
• Junior goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Defensive Player of the Week for games played Sept. 11-17.
• Johns helped the Flyers to a 2-0 weekend with back-to-back shutout victories vs. Ohio (3-0) and Xavier (1-0 OT). She played all 187 minutes, had eight saves, and faced 17 shots.  This marks her third A-10 Defensive Player of the Week honor and first this season. 
• Johns has posted four shutouts this season and has 12 in her career. 

PAULEY'S FIRST GOAL IS GOLDEN
• Sophomore Jordan Pauley scored a golden goal in the 98th minute to lift Dayton to a 1-0 overtime road victory over Xavier (Sept. 17). It was her first collegiate goal.

FLYERS UNDEFEATED AT BAUJAN 
• Dayton is 3-0 this season at Baujan, outscoring opponents 9-0 with 3-0 wins over Saint Francis (Aug. 27), Marshall (Sept. 1), and Ohio (Sept. 15). 

BELIEVIN' IN BAUJAN 
• The Flyers are 221-64-22 all-time in games played at Baujan Field. In the last six years, Dayton is 65-12-7 at home, an astounding .843 winning percentage at Baujan.

MAC HERMANN TROPHY WATCH 
Alexis Kiehl was among the 30 women selected by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly the NSCAA) and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) to the 2017 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists. The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. 
• She is the only representative from the Atlantic 10 on the list of standout student-athletes. 
• Kiehl, a forward from Cincinnati, Ohio, is coming off a phenomenal season. She led the Flyers with 21 goals and six assists for a total of 48 points. 
• Her 21 goals tied for first in NCAA Division I Women's Soccer in 2016. It's also the fourth-best, single-season effort in UD women's soccer history. 
• She was a 2016 NSCAA NCAA Division I Women's Scholar All-East Region First Team and a 2016 NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region First Team selection.

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUND 
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: 10 times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016).  UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five. 
• 2016 marked the 14th time the Flyers advanced to the A-10 Championship final.
• Dayton has appeared in 20 A-10 tournaments, earning a berth every year the Flyers have been a member of the conference. 
• 2016 marked Dayton's fifth title game appearance in the last six years.

•  10 Flyers are from the Cincinnati area: seniors Abby Weigel, Alexis and Kaitlynn Kiehl, junior Sara Robertson, sophomores Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, Madeleine Morrissey, Alex Powell, and freshmen Olivia Brown and Megan Rack.
