Emily Borchers was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week with her record-breaking performance Friday.Ā
She broke the UD cross country all-time 5k record at the 63rd annual Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 28. She was Dayton's top finisher in a school-record time of 17:16.9, placing 19th of 157 runners in a race featuring nationally ranked teams: No. 11 BYU, No. 12 Furman, No. 21 California, and No. 22 Notre Dame, and 18 regionally ranked teams.
"Emily had a fantastic performance at the Joe Piane invitational and had a big breakthrough," said head coach
Jason Ordway. "She's looking to be a top competitor in the conference and moving up in the region as well."Ā
The Flyers, who moved up a spot to No. 12 in the latest USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region poll, compete next at the NCAA Pre-Nationals 6K Saturday, Oct. 13 in Madison, Wis. at the Zimmer Championship Course.
