#UDMXC Announces Additions To Program

Johanssen And Gizelbach Join Dayton

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's cross country team and head coach Jason Ordway announced the addition of two new student-athletes for next season.

The reigning Atlantic 10 Champions welcome John Johanssen and Calan Gizelbach to the program.

Conner Johanssen - Hilliard, Ohio – Hilliard Davidson High School
Johanssen was a four-year varsity runner at Hilliard Davidson High School, earning All-State, All-District (2x), and First Team All-Conference (2x) honors. He qualified for state the last two years and was honorable mention All-Conference as a sophomore. Johanssen led his team to a state runner-up finish in 2017 and 2018 after guiding them to conference and district championships as a junior and senior. He also had a successful track career, earning All-State honors in the 1600m.

"Conner Johanssen is an extremely talented young runner that has made consistent improvements year in and year out," Coach Ordway stated. "We have had great success recruiting from his high school program and those athletes continue to improve at the next level. We have no doubts he'll continue to improve and fit into our program. Conner has shown he can race well from the mile to the 5K, and we're excited to add him to our group. I think with our experienced guys pushing him in workouts and races he'll improve by leaps and bounds."

Calan Gizelbach – Cumming, Georgia – Forsyth Central High School
Gizelbach has had a standout career at Forsyth Central High School, finishing second All-State this fall after placing seventh All-State last season. A three-time team captain and team MVP, Gizelbach earned All-County Runner of the Year, All-Count First Team, and Atlantic Track Club All-Metro accolades. He is Area 3 7A Champion, regional champion, and was named his high school's Athlete of the Year in 2018. Gizelbach also ran track and played soccer at Forsyth Central.

"We're very excited to add Calan Gizelbach to our team for the 2019 fall season," said Coach Ordway. "He's coming to us as a top runner in the state of Georgia, and he'll be looking to make an instant impact on our team. He is a natural leader that has very good range for a distance runner and has big goals for the future. Calan understands what we have built here, and he knew once he stepped on campus that he wanted to be a part of it. Adding to our positive team culture will be pivotal to our continued success, and Calan will play a central role to that in the years to come."

The Flyers are coming off their third straight Atlantic 10 Championship with three student-athletes earning All-Conference honors and Coach Ordway earning A-10 Coach of the Year accolades as well.
