#UDWXC 2018 Season In Review

Allison Triskett, Kelly Wilker, And Taylor Vernot Win 2018 Team Awards

Dayton Women's Cross Country DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's cross country team had another successful season in 2018.


Highlights from the 2018 cross country season include:
  • The Flyers were ranked ninth in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region preseason poll.
     
  • Queen City Invitational
    • The Flyers had four runners in the top 25 and took fourth place of 10 teams.  
    • Senior Taylor Vernot was Dayton's top finisher, taking fourth place in 17:49.8 
    • Emily Borchers also had a top 10 finish, crossing the line in seventh in a time of 18:06.0.
    • Vernot was named the Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week and freshman teammate Maddie Loughery was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week in the conference's first week of women's cross country action after their performances in this race. 
       
  • National Catholic Invitational
    • Dayton finished second behind No. 23 nationally-ranked Notre Dame.
    • The Flyers had four finishers in the top 25, including Taylor Vernot, Emily Borchers, Kelly Wilker, and Allison Triskett.
    • For the second time Vernot was named the Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Performer of the Week. She was Dayton's top finisher and earned National Catholic All-Invitational honors.
       
  • Friendship Invitational
  • 63rd annual Joe Piane Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame
    • Dayton took 13th out of 19 teams in a field that had 18 nationally and regionally-ranked teams competing.
    • Emily Borchers broke UD's 5k record (records as of 2003) with her time of 17:16.9, and finished 19th of 157 runners. She was also named A-10 Performer of the Week for her efforts.
    • Nine Flyers had PRs in the race.
       
  • Pre-National Invitational
    • Facing some of the nation's best competition, the Flyers placed 27th of 35 teams.
       
  • Atlantic 10 Championships
    • Seniors Taylor Vernot and Emily Borchers finished 1-2 at the 2018 Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country Championship to help Dayton to a second-place finish in the team standings.
    • Vernot was crowned the A-10 individual champion with her school-record time of 17:14.0 (records are kept as of 2003). Her time is the 10th fastest in A-10 Championship history. She has earned all-conference honors all four years competing in cross country for the Flyers.
    • Borchers was runner-up and also named to the all-conference team with a time of 17:21.0.
    • In addition to earning all-conference honors, Borchers and Vernot were two of six student-athletes named to the 2018 Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Cross Country Academic All-Conference Team.
    • Freshmen Katie Miller and Emily Sreenan were named to the 2018 Atlantic 10 Women's Cross Country All-Rookie Team which consist of the top seven women's freshmen finishers at the 2018 A-10 Cross Country Championship.
       
  • The Flyers moved up two spots to No. 12 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division I Great Lakes Region poll. The Flyers have been ranked every week this year, topping out as high as No. 9.
     
  • NCAA Great Lakes Regional
    • Dayton placed 12th of 32 teams at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
