MENLO PARK, Calif. - The Red Scare will be featured on Instagram's Student Section as the Dayton Flyers host the Fordham Rams on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. ET.
Red Scare, the largest student organization at the University of Dayton, is the official group of students that facilitate cheers at UD varsity athletic events.
The organization will be doing a takeover of the men's basketball Instagram account. To follow the story, fans must follow the official men's basketball Instagram account at @DaytonMBB.
Following its success last season, Instagram is rolling out "Student Section" – its student correspondents program – into its second year with 50 schools and more than 70 students participating nationwide.
Here's how it works: A designated student is given access to the school's Instagram account with the goal of providing first-person gameday content via Instagram Stories. The correspondents are selected by the school and trained by Instagram.
The point is for fans to feel like they're at the game, right in the student section.
At the end of the season, one correspondent will be chosen to take over the main Instagram account to post a story from the national title game. The Instagram story will provide the profile's 200 million-plus followers with a fan-first experience of the game.
The main objective of Instagram's Student Section is to give fans and viewers a more up close and personal understanding of the college football/basketball game day experience. Instagram and Facebook Sports Partnerships reached out to 50 schools, asking them to select one student correspondent that would take on this responsibility. During game days, their job is to take over their university's official athletic Instagram account and allow users the opportunity to go behind the scenes with content on the ground from the game via Instagram Stories.
