PLAYING FOR A GOOD CAUSE
The University of Dayton baseball program has teamed up with the Vs. Cancer Foundation to help raise money for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and local pediatric cancer programs, to help give these children a healthier and happier future.
Dayton has been fundraising for the foundation for two weeks and will continue to accept donations until April 22, when Dayton concludes its weekend series against St. Bonaventure at 12 p.m. for the team's "Vs. Cancer Game". As of April 19 at 2:00 p.m., the Flyers have helped raise over $2,200 for cancer research. The Flyers are one of 38 collegiate baseball teams to partner with the Vs. Cancer Foundation this season and one of 23 teams to have crossed the $2,000 threshold. In total, the College Baseball Vs. Cancer fundraiser this season has generated over $181,000 for pediatric cancer research nationwide, led by $16,000 from Texas A&M baseball.
Members of the Dayton Flyers baseball program will have a postgame head shaving ceremony to show additional support for kids battling cancer.
About VS. Cancer and Organization History
"Vs. Cancer is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to funding live-saving childhood cancer efforts to help children with cancer live healthier, happier lives. Founder Chase Jones experienced childhood cancer first-hand as an eighteen-year-old college freshman, when he was diagnosed with a Stage IV brain tumor. As a baseball player at the University of North Carolina, his team rallied around him during treatment and began raising funds to support their local hospital. Jones has been cancer free for 10 years and attests his status to a byproduct of national research and community help." To learn more, visit Vs. Cancer's websiteÂ
