DAYTON - University of Dayton volleyball head coach
Tim Horsmon has signed Irina Alekseeva to his 2019 roster. The Russian native will join the Flyers in the fall after playing two season at Iowa Western Community College.
"Irina will join a talented group of outside hitters and will score points in our system with a heavy arm," commented Horsmon. "She will compete immediately on both pins. We're excited to see how she develops in the back row and with ball control giving us more options as a six-rotation player. Irina established herself as one of the top outside hitters in the country at the junior college level and understands how to win."
The 6-1 outside hitter/right side tallied 997 kills in two seasons at IWCC and helped lead the Reivers to a third-place finish in the 2018 NJCAA tournament. Alekseeva was named to the NJCAA All-America Second Team in 2017, after finishing the season ranked fifth in the nation with 502 kills, and earned mention on the NJCAA National All-Tournament Team for her work during the 2018 national championship.
Born in Saratov, Russia, Alekseeva player her prep career at Beacon High School in Beacon, New York. She lettered three years in volleyball, averaging 21 kills/match, under head coach Ron Pagliaro. In Russia, Alekseeva was part of the Sports School for Olympic Reserve for 3threeyears and participated in the Russian National Championship.
