Women's Soccer Closes Out Non-Conference Action This Week

The Flyers Play At Undefeated Louisville Thursday And Host Eastern Michigan Sunday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (1-4-1 0-0-0 A-10) visits Louisville (5-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) this Thursday, Sept. 12 and hosts Eastern Michigan (1-3-1, 0-0-0 MAC) this Sunday, Sept. 15 at Baujan Field in the fourth week of the regular season. It wraps up the non-conference portion of the season for the Flyers. Admission and parking are free for all Flyer women's soccer regular season home matches.

Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.
 

PROMOTIONS VS. EASTERN MICHIGAN
•  It is camper reunion day. We welcome back participants from our soccer camps.
•  Promotions include schedule & team posters and thunder sticks for all.
•  Dayton Flyer vuvuzelas for fans.
 

THE SERIES
• Dayton leads the all-time series 11-2-0 vs. Louisville, however the Cardinals have won the last two meetings; last season they dealt the Flyers a 1-0 loss on a UD own goal at Baujan Field on Aug. 23, 2018. Prior to that, Dayton fell 2-0 to the Cardinals in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Nov. 12, 2011.

• The series is currently tied vs. Eastern Michigan. The Eagles won the first matchup 2-1 in 1996. Last year, the Flyers defeated EMU 3-1 on the road on Aug. 26, 2018. Sabrina McNeill put the Eagles up 1-0 in the 33rd minute and EMU held a 1-0 lead at the half. Kara Camarco scored the equalizer in the 64th minute and Micayla Livingston scored back-to-back goals in the 74th and 76th minutes to win it for the Flyers. UD's Izzy Greene also had an assist in the match.

FLYER QUICK HITS
•  The Flyers went 8-9-2 overall last season. UD returns 16 letterwinners from that squad and they have 10 newcomers.
• Senior Micayla Livingston is Dayton's leading returning scorer with 12 points.
• Sophomore Izzy Greene, a 2018 A-10 All-Rookie selection, was UD's second leading scorer last year with 2 goals and 2 assists.
• Freshman Alexis Goins scored two goals in Dayton's 5-1 season opening win over Miami (Ohio). Senior Caroline Mink scored the game-winning goal in that match.
• Senior Jordan Pauley scored on PKs in back-to-back matches vs. Miami and Illinois.
• Key losses for the Flyers include four-year starting goalkeeper Kaelyn Johns who had 18 career shutouts, as well as Beth Kamphaus and Nadia Pestell, both four-year starting defenders.
• Head coach Eric Golz is in his third season at the helm of the Flyers. He previously served as an assistant at UD in 2011.


SCOUTING LOUISVILLE
• Louisville, currently undefeated at 5-0-0, is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll.
• The Cardinals are outscoring opponents 12-1 through five matches.
• Junior Emina Ekic leads Louisville with three goals and 2 assists this season for eight points.
• Senior Brooklynn Rivers and sophomore Maisie Whitsett have each scored two goals this season.
• Redshirt junior Gabby Kouzelos has earned all five starts in goal for UofL. She has eight saves and a .22 GAA.
• Louisville's five wins are over: Ohio State (2-1),  Morehead State (3-0). A-10's Saint Louis (1-0), Eastern Michigan (5-0), and Indiana (1-0).

 SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
• Eastern Michigan is 1-3-1 to start the 2019 season. The Eagles face Youngstown State Friday, Sept. 13 in Youngstown, Ohio before traveling to face Dayton Sunday.
• Eastern Michigan has been outscored 14-5 this season.
• Five different Eagles have scored one goal this year. Junior Lindsey Shira leads EMU with one goal and one assist.
• Redshirt junior Mabel Dunn has earned all five starts. She has 28 saves and a 2.89 GAA.
• The Eagles started the season 1-0-1 with a 2-2 tie vs. Oakland and a 1-0 win over Detroit Mercy. Since they have suffered losses to Michigan State (2-0), Louisville (5-0) and Creighton (5-2). 

UP NEXT
•  The Flyers open Atlantic 10 Conference play at home vs. George Mason on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. ET.
•  It is UD Women's Soccer Alumnae Day.
•  The sophomores will sign autographs following the match vs. George Mason.

DAYTON'S A-10 BACKGROUND
• Dayton has won the A-10 Tournament Championship more than any other team in the conference: 10 times (1996, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2016).
• UD has also won or shared 11 Atlantic 10 Regular Season titles (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013). The next closest is Massachusetts with five.
Dayton has appeared in 22 A-10 tournaments, earning a berth every year the Flyers have been a member of the conference.

CINCINNATI CONNECTIONS
•  Nine Flyers are from the Cincinnati area, including three from Fairfield: senior Alex Powell, sophomore Lexy Kidd, and freshman Alexis Goins. The other Cincinnati-area products include: seniors Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, and Madeleine Morrissey, juniors Olivia Brown and Megan Rack, and freshman Laney Huber.


FANTASTIC FRESHMEN
• Dayton's freshmen have a history of making an impact.
• Current freshmen Alexis Goins, Landy Mertz, Yaiza Navarro Leon, and Audrey Steiert have started every match for the Flyers. Laney Huber (2 starts), Jessica Sheldon, and Marlee Taylor have played in all six matches. Mackenzie Lutz has played in five matches with four starts. Goins, Huber, and Mertz have each scored a goal this season. Navarro Leon has an assist.
Izzy Greene was named to the 2018 A-10 All-Rookie Team.
Micayla Livingston and Caroline Mink were both named to the 2016 A-10 All-Rookie Team.
