Women's Soccer Continues A-10 Action Thursday vs. Rhode Island

The Flyers Host The Rams Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field; At A-10 Defending Champs Saint Louis Sunday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team (3-5-1, 1-0-0 A-10) is on a two-match winning streak with two shutouts. The Flyers continue Atlantic 10 action hosting Rhode Island (3-4-2, 0-1-0 A-10) Thursday, Sept. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Baujan Field . Admission and parking are free for all Flyer women's soccer regular season home matches.

UD then travels to St. Louis to take on defending A-10 champions Saint Louis Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. ET at Hermann Field. 

The matches will be streamed on ESPN+ with Alex Mikos on the call for the Rhode Island match. 

PROMOTIONS VS. RHODE ISLAND

THE SERIES
• Dayton leads the all-time series 17-3-0 over Rhode Island. 
• The Flyers have won the last eight matches vs. the Rams. 
• UD is 7-1-0 when playing URI in home matches at Baujan Field. The last time Dayton faced Rhode Island was Oct. 20, 2016 at Baujan Field with the Flyers coming away with a 2-0 win. 

• Dayton leads the all-time series vs. Saint Louis 10-4-3, but have lost the last two matches vs. the Billikins. 
• The two teams faced off twice in 2018 with SLU taking a 3-0 win over UD in the A-10 first round at Hermann Field. Saint Louis also won the regular season match up 3-1 at Baujan Field on Oct. 4. Caroline Mink scored UD's lone goal in that match off an assist from Micayla Livingston and Keagin Collie

FLYER QUICK HITS
•  The Flyers went 2-5-1 overall in the non-conference portion of their 2019 schedule. •  Dayton is 3-2-0 at Baujan Field this season, and 0-3-1 on the road. 
•  The Flyers recently snapped a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Eastern Michigan on Sunday, Sept. 15 and followed that up with a 2-0 shutout over George Mason to open A-10 play. 
•  Four of UD's five losses have been by one goal (Illinois 3-2, DePaul 1-0, Bowling Green 2-1 in double overtime - with just six seconds left in the match, and Indiana State 1-0). 
• Dayton's leading scorers are freshmen Laney Huber with three goals and two assists (8 points) and Alexis Goins with four goals (8 points). 
• Senior Micayla Livingston leads UD in  assists with three.  
• Five different Flyers have scored goals this season: Goins (4), Huber (3), senior Jordan Pauley (2), and freshman Landy Mertz and seniors Micayla Livingston and Caroline Mink (1). Livingston (vs. George Mason), Huber (vs. Eastern Michigan) and Mink (vs. Miami) have each scored one game-winning goal.
• Redshirt sophomore Carly Becker has started all nine matches in goal for Dayton. She has 28 saves and a 1.40 GAA with three shutouts.
• Goins scored two goals in Dayton's 5-1 season opening win over Miami (Ohio). 
• Pauley scored on PKs in back-to-back matches vs. Miami and Illinois. 

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
• Rhode Island is 3-4-2 overall and opened up A-10 conference play with a 4-1 loss vs. Saint Louis. 
• The Rams are 2-3-1 in road matches this season. 
• Two of URI's four losses have been by one goal (Quinnipiac L 1-0 and Boston L 1-0). 
• Brooke Cavino is the Rams leading scorer, tallying three goals in eight games played. 
• Teresa Morrissey has started all nine matches and has tallied 30 saves. Her goals against average is 1.09. 

SCOUTING SAINT LOUIS
• Saint Louis went 18-4-1 in 2018 season and won the A-10 regular season and tournament title.
• The 2019 Billikens have 17 returners including 2017/2018 USC All American defender  Alli Klug 
• SLU went 6-3-1 to start the 2019 season with losses to:  Notre Dame (L 1-0), Louisville (L  1-0), and Oklahoma State (L 2-0).
• Saint Louis was selected to finish first in the A-10 in the preseason coaches' poll 
• Hannah Friedrich is the leading scorer for the Billikens so far this season with four goals in 10 games.
• Mary Niehaus leads SLU in goalkeeping  with 28  saves.

UP NEXT
•  The Flyers play at St. Bonaventure on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. before returning home for senior day on Sunday, Oct. 6 when UD takes on Davidson at Baujan Field at 1 p.m. 

HOME SWEET HOME
•    Dayton has nine home matches on its home Baujan Field this season. 

CINCINNATI CONNECTIONS
•  Nine Flyers are from the Cincinnati area, including three from Fairfield: senior Alex Powell, sophomore Lexy Kidd, and freshman Alexis Goins. The other Cincinnati-area products include: seniors Hanna Merritt, Caroline Mink, and Madeleine Morrissey, juniors Olivia Brown and Megan Rack, and freshman Laney Huber.

FLYERS PICKED 6TH IN A-10 POLL
• The Dayton women's soccer team was selected to finish sixth in the 2019 Atlantic 10 standings in a vote by the league's 14 head coaches. They were picked to finish seventh last year and ended the season in eighth place with the final spot into the A-10 Tournament. 
• Defending champion Saint Louis was picked to finish first with 192 points and 13 first-place votes. VCU was second with 176 and George Mason third with 163 points and one first-place vote. 
• The top eight teams will compete in the 2019 Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship. The opening rounds will be held on the campus of the higher seeds on Nov. 2 and 3. The top four teams will then advance to play at Saint Louis' Hermann Stadium in the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8. The championship final will be held on Sunday, Nov. 10 with the winner earning the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. All rounds of the championship will be streamed on ESPN+.

BELIEVIN' IN BAUJAN 
• The Flyers are 229-74-23 all-time in games played on their home field, Baujan Field. 

FANTASTIC FRESHMEN 
• Dayton's freshmen have a history of making an impact. 
• Current freshmen Alexis Goins, Landy Mertz, Yaiza Navarro Leon, and Audrey Steiert have started every match for the Flyers. Laney Huber (five starts), Jessica Sheldon, and Marlee Taylor have played in all nine matches. Mackenzie Lutz has played in five matches with four starts. Goins, Huber, and Mertz have each scored a goal this season. Navarro Leon has an assist. 
Izzy Greene was named to the 2018 A-10 All-Rookie Team. 
• Until the 2017 season, the Flyers have had at least one representative on the A-10 All-Rookie team every year since it started in 2000.
Micayla Livingston and Caroline Mink were both named to the 2016 A-10 All-Rookie Team.
