Men’s Soccer Adds Kanyane

Mbongeni Kanyane Comes From South Africa

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's soccer team and head coach Dennis Currier have announced the addition of Mbongeni Kanyane.

"Geni is originally from South Africa but came over to the USA and played at Putnam Science Academy," said Coach Currier. "He is one of the best left backs coming out of the 2020 class and we believe he will thrive in our system at Dayton.  His power and athleticism allows him to threaten opponents from a peripheral position.  He is able to break lines on the dribble as well as his excellent passing range.  We feel he can make an immediate impact from day one and also has the attributes to be a great leader in the future."

Kanyane previously played at Rand Park High School in South Africa before moving to Connecticut for his senior year. He has experience playing for the South Africa U20 national team, which won the COSAFA Cup Championship in 2018. He also played club for Supersport United FC and Bidvest Wits FC. He expects to play as left back for Dayton.

The Flyers are coming off a 2019 season in which they won 13 games and advanced to the Atlantic 10 Championship while going 9-1 at home on the year.
