DAYTON - University of Dayton volleyball head coach
Tim Horsmon has announced the addition of transfer
Mahalia Swink to the team's roster for the 2020 season. The 6-1 outside/right side hitter is a native of Bakersfield, Calif., and will be pursuing a graduate degree at UD beginning in the spring 2020 semester.
"Mahalia is a great fit for us and will have a great opportunity to immediately impact our program as a pin attacker that can play the whole game," commented Horsmon. "As a two-year starter at Alabama, she played with a shoulder that wasn't 100% and we believe that she hasn't reached her full potential because of that. She's a good passer with great touch and should make us better in our sideout offense. Mahalia is athletic, can be a point scorer and has a great feel for blocking. We loved her visit and her personality during her time here and are excited to get her into the fold and playing again this spring."
Swink started in 30 of 32 matches for the Crimson Tide in 2018 and averaged 2.09 kills/set, 2.59 digs/set, 0.64 blocks/set and 0.32 aces/set in a 20-12 season for Alabama while competing in a great conference. She posted three double-doubles during her junior season including a career-high 19 kills to go with 16 digs and three blocks while swinging at .342 against Ole Miss on Oct. 28, 2018.
Prior to her time at Alabama, Swink was a member of the 2015 18's Silver Division Olympic National Championship team and the 2014 18's Division Jr. Olympic National Championship team. She played club volleyball with Bakersfield Volleyball Club.
