DAYTONÂ - University of Dayton's volleyball head coach
Tim Horsmon has announced the addition of Aspen Aldous to the Flyers' 2020 roster. The 6-2 setter from Gilbert, Ariz. is a 2019-20 Prep-Volleyball All-American and a National Andi Collins Setter Award Finalist.
"Aspen brings some physicality to our roster as a 6'2 setter but beyond that knows how to win and play in big matches. The West coast obviously has some talented players and Aspen quarterbacked her high school team to an Arizona state championship and we like that type of pedigree," said Horsmon. "To find a player this late in the process with her upside is exciting and we're ready to get her here quickly to work with Bridget and Livie. Timmy (Balice) and Alyssa (D'Errico) did a fantastic job finding Aspen in this timeframe to complete our upcoming roster."
Â
"I chose to come to Dayton because of the awesome environment both on campus and on the court," said Aldous. "I wanted to attend a school with great values, and not to mention one of the best volleyball programs in the nation! I also really clicked with the coaches and could tell that they wanted me to succeed."
Â
Aldous played varsity volleyball at Basha High School in Chandler, Ariz. for head coach Terri Spann, where she led the program to the 2019-20 Arizona 6A State Championship title. The 2020 Prep-Volleyball Top Recruit was also named Arizona First Team All-State, First Team All-Premier Region, and CUSD First Team All-District last season. Aldous was also a Under Armour All-American nominee and she most recently played club for the Performance Zone Volleyball Club of Arizona.
Â
In 2018-19 season Aldous was named Arizona All-State Honorable Mention and All-6A Conference Honorable Mention.
Â
She holds the school record for most amount of assists (1,295) in a single season last year, which also ranked first in Arizona. She also ranked first in Arizona for two consecutive season in aces with 66 in 2019-20 and 57 in 2018-19. As a junior, Aldous registered 1,102 assists, ranking her second in Arizona.
Â
Aldous is an Arizona Scholar Athlete and National Society of High School Scholars member. She also plays the violin and piano.
