DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team opens the fall season with two contests this weekend. The Flyers will open with a game at home against the Ontario Nationals at Action Sports Complex at 3 p.m. on Friday before travelling to Lexington, Ky., to take on Kentucky at 1 p.m. at Kentucky Proud Park. Both games will be open to fans.

"We are looking forward to this weekend of playing outside competition," head coach
Jayson King said. "It will be a great opportunity to see where we are at and what we have. We are excited about this group for sure."

The Flyers will look to continue last season's success and use the fall to ready for next spring's season and are also scheduled to host the program's annual Scout Day on Oct. 6 and travel to Michigan to finish the fall season on Oct. 16.

Dayton is coming off a successful 2021 campaign, one that saw them advance to the Atlantic 10 Championship Game for the second-straight season. The program had that success continue into the professional scene as
Riley Tirotta and
Mariano Ricciardi were each selected in the 2021 MLB Draft.

It marked the first time since Mike Hauschild in 2012 that a Flyer was selected and the first time since Cameron Hobson and Cole Tyrell in 2010 that multiple Flyers were picked. Hauschild saw action this season as well, pitching for the Iowa Cubs, the Triple A representative for the Chicago Cubs.
