NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Atlantic 10 Conference released it's weekly Player of the Week honors, and sophomore forward
Itala Gemelli was named the conference's Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Gemelli had a breakout game last Thursday, Sept. 23, as she led the Flyers to a 3-0 victory over La Salle. Itala scored the match opening goal in the fifth minute, slotting in a goal from a
Marlee Taylor lead pass to open up the scoring. The sophomore registered seven shots in the match, and would assist on Dayton's insurance goal in the 84
th minute as she set up
Laney Huber for a tap-in goal to give the Flyers a 2-0 lead. A minute later in the match, the Flyers earned a penalty on a La Salle hand ball, and Gemelli stepped to the spot and netted the goal, earning her fifth point of the match. Gemelli also registered three shots in Sunday's match, a 1-0 triumph for the Flyers to get to 2-1 in conference play.
The Flyers will be back in action this week, as they hit the road to take on Saint Joseph's Thursday night in Philadelphia. Dayton returns to Baujan on Sunday, as the George Mason Patriots come to town for the Flyers' senior day match at 1 p.m.
