Dayton’s Adjei Selected By New York City FC In 2022 MLS SuperDraft

The Senior Midfielder Was The 28th Pick In The Second Round

NEW YORK – The New York City Football Club selected University of Dayton men's soccer senior Kingsford Adjei with the 28th pick in the second round of the 2022 MLS SuperDraft Tuesday.

Adjei was picked 56th overall and will join the club who finished fourth overall in the Eastern Conference this past season in Major League Soccer.

"King has had an amazing and inspirational journey coming from the Right to Dream Academy in Ghana," said Dayton head coach Dennis Currier. "He is one of the most exciting attacking players in college soccer and it will be exciting to see his progress as the next level. Our staff is grateful to have had the opportunity to coach him."

Adjei completed his senior season this past fall, earning Atlantic 10 First Team honors for the third straight season and was a two-time A-10 Midfielder of the Year. He finished his Dayton career with 21 goals and 12 assists for 54 points in 36 career starts.

With his selection Tuesday, Adjei makes it two straight years that a Dayton Flyer has been drafted, joining former teammate Jonas Fjeldberg, who was chosen by F.C. Cincinnati after last season. They join current MLS player Lalas Abubakar (Colorado Rapids), and former selections Amass Amankona (Real Salt Lake FC), Isaac Kisi (Chivas USA), Dasan Robinson (Chicago Fire), Chris Rolfe (Chicago Fire), and Denny Clanton (Chicago Fire).
