NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference announced its weekly men's soccer awards and recognized University of Dayton freshman Basit Umar as the A-10 Rookie of the Week.  

The freshman from Liberia scored two goals last week, the first in a 2-2 draw at No. 2 Kentucky on Wednesday before adding his second goal in a 3-1 win at home against VCU on Saturday. He led the Flyers in shots last week and played all 180 minutes.  

This is the first honor for Umar this season. He joins teammates Manny Day and Andy Sanchez, who were both A-10 Offensive Players of the Week, Dario Caetano and Logan Brown, who were A-10 Defensive Players of the Week, and Gabriel Kringen, who was also A-10 Rookie of the Week.

The Flyers remain unbeaten at 9-0-4 on the season and return to action next Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. against Saint Louis for Senior Day.
