Women's Soccer Preps For A-10 Quarterfinal Match

Flyers Host Massachusetts Friday At Baujan Field

DAYTON – The University of Dayton women's soccer team, coming off a historic regular season, is set to host a quarterfinal match in the Atlantic 10 Championship this weekend at Baujan Field. The Flyers are set to host Massachusetts on Friday, as the 7:00 p.m. kick-off will feature the #2 seeded Flyers taking on the #7 seeded Minutewomen.

FLYER FACTS
The Flyers won 14 games this regular season, the most they have won since 2011. Defense has been the key for Dayton this season, as they average just 0.78 goals allowed per match, including 11 shutout victories, also the most since 2011. Freshman goalkeeper Batoul Reda burst onto the scene in her rookie campaign, posting a 10-3 record and making 44 saves in 12 matches started.

Reigning Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year Itala Gemelli had another noteworthy regular season in 2022, leading the Atlantic 10 in shots, goals, and game-winning goals. Her six game-winning goals are tied for the NCAA lead with only four other players in all of Division I.

SCOUTING UMASS
Massachusetts comes into the post-season as a #7 seed, after posting a 5-8-5 overall record, with a 4-4-2 record in Atlantic 10 play. The Minutewomen enter post-season play on a two-match losing streak, dropping their last two against Loyola Chicago and Fordham. The Flyers faced UMass one time this season, a 2-1 road victory for the Flyers in Amherst, Mass. on Sept. 25. Lauren Bonavita leads the way offensively for the Minutewomen, as her nine goals and 18 points are the most on the Massachusetts roster.

Friday's quarterfinal match at Baujan Field will be free to attend for all fans, and the match will also be streamed live on ESPN+. A victory for Dayton Friday night would guarantee them to host a semifinal match in the Atlantic 10 Women's Soccer Championship.
