Dayton Student-Athletes Will Be Recognized Throughout The School Year

DAYTON - University of Dayton men's tennis junior Connor Bruce and women's basketball sophomore Makira Cook have been named the Ohio's CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week for contests during Jan. 31-Feb. 6.

A Pittsburgh native, Bruce won both matches he competed in last weekend against Youngstown State. He clinched the doubles point with Will Harper, surviving three match points to take a 7-6 win in No. 3 doubles. Bruce went on to win against Laurentiu Mandocescu in the top singles flight, taking the match in straight sets 6-3, 6-4. He was honored A-10 Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 8 for his efforts against Youngstown State.

Cook, who hails from Cincinnati, averaged 20.0 points and 6.5 rebounds per game last week in wins over Duquesne and George Mason. The sophomore guard recorded her first career double-double with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists against the Dukes. She then tied a career high with 29 points and went 13-of-15 from the field against the Patriots while adding two steals and three boards. Cook shot 64.3 percent overall during the stretch and 42.9 percent from three.

Each week we will recognize Dayton student-athletes throughout the end of the school year.
