Baseball Heads To Michigan For Adjusted Series

Flyers Will Play On Thursday, Either Friday Or Saturday, and Sunday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team will play an adjusted three-game series at Michigan starting Thursday at 6 p.m. at Ray Fisher Stadium in Ann Arbor. Depending on the weather, the Flyers will play the second game of the series either Friday or Saturday and will close the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

All three games will be streamed on B1G+ with a paid subscription.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers split their midweek games, falling at Purdue on Tuesday and beating Purdue Fort Wayne 8-4 in 11 innings on Wednesday. Senior Jay Curtis led the team with five hits between the two games, and UD hit four home runs against the Mastodons, including the first career collegiate home run by redshirt freshman Andrew Casey.

Curtis leads the offense with a .365 batting average, starting all 14 games so far this season behind the plate. Junior Keagan Calero's .560 slugging percentage and .443 on-base percentage pace the Flyers and his two home runs are tied for second on the team. Junior Alex Neff leads the way with three homers and Neff is also tied with graduate student Henry Strmecki and senior Marcos Pujols with nine RBIs.

Sophomore Eli Majick has been consistent out of the Dayton bullpen this season with a 1.29 ERA in seven appearances this season. Sophomore Austin Brush has limited opposing hitters to a .167 batting average and a 2.70 ERA in six appearances in relief in 2022.

Junior Ryan Steinhauer has been Dayton's most reliable starter this year, striking out 17 in 14.1 innings across three starts, and junior Anthony Hattrup's 1.88 ERA leads the team among players with at least two starts.

SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Michigan comes into the season at 8-8 after a series at Louisville and a midweek game at No. 4 Vanderbilt. The Wolverines took one of three from the Cardinals, losing on Friday before winning a suspended game on Sunday and dropping the series finale. Michigan was up 4-2 entering the bottom of the ninth against the Commodores, but a three-run inning gave Vanderbilt the win.

The Wolverines were picked to finish second in the Big Ten Preseason Poll behind Nebraska after finishing 27-19 in 2021 and advancing to the NCAA Tournament, losing to Connecticut and Central Michigan in the South Bend Regional.

Erik Bakich has been the head coach of Michigan since 2012 and was named National Coach of the Year in 2019 after advancing to the College World Series and finishing as the National Runner-Up behind Vanderbilt.

Clark Elliott leads Michigan with a .355 batting average in 14 starts this season. He has seven doubles, a triple and three home runs to go with his 17 RBIs. The offense also features Tito Flores who leads the team with four home runs and is tied for the most on the Wolverines with 19 RBIs. Ted Burton also has 19 RBIs for Michigan and his five stolen bases pace Michigan.

Noah Rennard has made eight appearances this season including one start. His 2.50 ERA leads Michigan and he is the only pitcher on the team with both a win and a save. Connor O'Halloran's five starts is the most on the pitching staff. In those five games he is 1-2 with a 3.37 ERA in 18.2 innings. Cameron Weston leads the team with 25 strikeouts in 21 innings.
