OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – University of Dayton baseball senior
Bryce Hellgeth has been selected as one of 30 candidates for the 2022 Senior CLASS Award across Division I.
Â
The Senior CLASS Award is given to student-athletes classified as seniors or graduate students that have strengths in community, classroom, character, and competition. The honor is given to someone who exemplifies the total student-athlete.
Â
Thirty candidates will be condensed to 10 finalists during the season, with those 10 being put on the ballot that will be sent out via a nationwide vote consisting of media, coaches, and fans to determine the Senior CLASS Award winner. That student-athlete will be selected during the 2022 College World Series.
Â
Hellgeth joins VCU's Evan Chenier as the only two representatives from the Atlantic 10. The Arlington Heights, Ill., native finished third on the team in strikeouts last year, striking out 46 hitters in 34 innings on the mound.
Â
In 10.1 innings this season, Hellgeth has nine strikeouts and is tied for the team lead with eighth appearances in 2022, sporting a 1-0 record for Dayton.
Â
One of four team captains this season, Hellgeth is also a four-time member of the Dean's List at UD.
