The Flyers Will Play Thursday, Friday, And Saturday

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team will head to the Bronx to take on Fordham for a three-game series in A-10 play this weekend. The Flyers will play on Thursday at 3 p.m., Friday at 11 a.m., and Saturday at noon. All three games will be played at Houlihan Park.

Thursday's contest will feature an ESPN+ stream, while Friday and Saturday will have audio broadcasts available alongside live stats.

SCOUTING THE FLYERS
The Flyers enter this weekend's series with the Rams after winning an electric game at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons, over Ohio State 6-0. The Flyers set the program record with 3,859 in attendance in a game that helped raise awareness for epilepsy in conjunction with the Epilepsy Foundation.

Dayton is 13-15 this season and is playing in the third conference series of the season, posting a 2-4 record against Rhode Island and George Washington over the past two weeks. The Flyers took one of three from both A-10 opponents.

UD will be playing games 29-31, but have had just five home games this season. Dayton has had nine scheduled home games to this point, but due to inclement weather, only five have been played.

In the game against the Buckeyes, graduate student Kenny Serwa went seven scoreless innings, the longest a Dayton pitcher has gone this season, and struck out 11 Ohio State hitters. Juniors Jose Martinez and Keagan Calero each homered in the win, and senior Jay Curtis drove in two runs for UD.
Curtis leads the Flyers with a .292 batting average through the team's first 28 games. His 31 hits and six stolen bases are the most on the team. Senior Marcos Pujols leads the Flyers with six home runs and his 20 RBIs ties Curtis for the most on the team.

Sophomore Eli Majick has been dominant out of the bullpen for the Flyers, posting a 3-0 record and a 1.47 ERA in a team-high 14 appearances this season. Juniors Ryan Steinhauer and Mark Manfredi have each solidified their spots in Dayton's rotation with strong starts this season. Steinhauer leads the team with 39 strikeouts, and the Flyers have won four of his seven starts in 2022. Manfredi went 6.2 innings last weekend against George Washington and ranks second with 36 K's this year.

SCOUTING THE RAMS
Fordham enters the series with Dayton at 6-23 this season and are 1-5 in conference play. The Rams were 1-2 against Saint Louis before getting swept by UMass this past weekend. Fordham also fell 16-3 to Columbia on Tuesday.

The Rams were picked to finish sixth in the conference after a 24-19 finish in 2021.

Head coach Kevin Leighton is in his 11th year at Fordham and led the Rams to the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship, beating the Flyers 4-3 in 12 innings.

Cian Sahler leads Fordham with a .352 batting average in 26 games for the Rams. He is tied for second on the team with 12 RBIs, one behind Zach Selinger for the most. Selinger is hitting .294 with a pair of home runs, also tied for the team lead.

Trey Maeker has been the best out of the bullpen for Fordham, posting a 2.84 ERA in 10 appearances. Maker has 17 strikeouts in just 12.2 innings and is holding opposing hitters to a .191 batting average. Brooks Ey leads the team with 38 strikeouts and 42.2 innings pitched in 2022. He has made eight starts for the Rams with a 1-5 record on the mound.

MATCHUP HISTORY
These will be the 34th, 35th, and 36th games between the two teams since 2006, with Fordham holding a 17-16 edge over Dayton. It will also mark the first time these teams have played since the 2019 Atlantic 10 Championship Game. The Flyers fell in extra innings 4-3 to the Rams. Alex Brickman homered in the loss.
