NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – University of Dayton baseball graduate students Nick Meyer and Henry Strmecki were each selected to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team, announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning. It marks the second-consecutive season at least two Flyers have been named to the All-Academic Team.
 
Davidson swept the major awards with Michael Carico earning Player of the Year, Blake Hely winning Pitcher of the Year, Ryan Feczko being named Rookie of the Year, and Rucker Taylor honored as the Coach of the Year.
 
Meyer and Strmecki were each named to the 12-person academic team, voted upon by the league's sports information directors.
 
Meyer emerged as Dayton's top bullpen option this season, appearing in 17 games and posting a 1.17 ERA in 23 innings. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native went 3-1 and tied for the team lead with two saves, ranking sixth on the team with 28 strikeouts and first on the Flyers among pitchers who did not start a game this season. Twelve of his 17 appearances were scoreless and he did not allow an earned run in 14 of 17 games in 2022.
 
Strmecki served as Dayton's most consistent hitter this season, leading the team with a .313 batting average. He led the Flyers with 24 extra-base hits and was tied for third in the Atlantic 10 with three triples. His .995 OPS and 12 doubles both were the best on the team and he ranked second on the Flyers with nine home runs. Strmecki had a .406 on-base percentage in 43 starts this season which also led Dayton's offense, and he was a threat on the basepaths as well with eight stolen bases on the year.
 
The Flyers finished the 2022 season with a 23-27 record, including picking up two wins at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons, where the program record for attendance was set when a crowd of 3,859 saw Dayton defeat Ohio State 6-0 on April 12.
