Taylor Russell have been named the
Ohio's CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week. These awards are for contests held Sept. 25-Oct. 1.
Sigurdsson scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in Dayton's 2-1 win over Cleveland State last week. In his first year of collegiate action, the Reykjavik, Iceland product played all 180 minutes in the Flyers' victories over the Vikings and St. Bonaventure. He finished the two-game stretch with three shots and led UD to a shutout win over the Bonnies. Sigurdsson was named the A-10 Co-Rookie of the Week on Monday, his first conference weekly award.
Russell led Dayton to consecutive straight-set wins over Fordham with 5.20 kills per set and 1.40 aces per set. In Friday's win over the Rams, she was one off her career high with 16 kills while swinging at .500, narrowly missed the double-double with nine digs and also served up three aces. An outside hitter from Whitehouse, Ohio, Russell followed that with a match-high 10 kills and a season-high-tying four aces in two sets of action on Saturday. Over five sets this past weekend, she posted a .435 hitting percentage and averaged 6.60 points per set for the Flyers. For the second-consecutive week, Russell was named the A-10's Player of the Week.
