DAYTON – The University of Dayton track & field team will have its regular season finale in Findlay, Ohio on Friday, February 17th at the Flag City Open. The field events will begin at 2:00 p.m. and the running events will start at 5:00 p.m. This one-day meet will feature a much smaller group of Flyer athletes than in most weeks.
"This weekend we have a unique situation where most of our team is at the peak of their training, and they are focusing on recovering before next weekend's A-10 Championships," explains Associate Head Coach
Kevin Gilhuly. "The sprinters, jumpers, and distance runners will be off while our throwers will be competing at Findlay. The throwers have continued to post significant PRs week after week and have a strong foothold in our A-10 rankings. We are looking to continue that success and use this meet to bring even more momentum into the A-10 Championships."
The Flyers began this indoor season at the University of Findlay in December. However, the events they will be competing in this weekend are entirely different from the events they competed in at the Findlay Oiler Open. This weekend, the Flyers will compete in the shot put, weight throw, and 3000m. A year ago, track and field finished their 2022 indoor season at the Flag City Open while competing in events identical to those for this weekend. Returning throwers, Grace Homan and Hannah Lindenman, earned second place in the shot put and weight throw, respectively. Homan also set a PR for the shot put at the 2022 Flag City Open. Kate Lechowicz earned fourth place in the 3000m last year, and she will be making her indoor season debut at the Flag City Open this weekend.
At the Marshall Invitational last weekend, the throwers set personal records and even set some new school records. Freshman Anna Yater earned PRs in both the shot put and weight throw. Homan earned a PR, finished in first place, and set the fourth all-time shot put distance at the University of Dayton with her 14.88m put at the Marshall Invitational. "Grace Homan continues to lead the A-10 conference in the shot put as she has for most of the year, and she knows she has a lot more in the tank," said Gilhuly. "She continues to climb our all-time lists in the shot put, and we hope she continues her record-breaking season."
