DAYTON - University of Dayton baseball junior
Paxton Tomaini and softball sophomore
Maddie Kapsimalis have been named the
Ohio's CollegeAdvantage Student-Athletes of the Week. These awards are for contests held March 20-26.
Tomaini, a native of Tallahassee, Florida, had a historic day for the Dayton baseball team in its win over Northern Kentucky last week, hitting a grand slam and a three-run home run in back-to-back innings, one from each side of the plate. The first-year FlyBoy hit his first career grand slam in the fifth as a left-handed hitter and came back in the sixth from the right side to launch a three-run homer. The second baseman finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and a walk, helping the Flyers drub the Norse, 14-3.
Hailing from Glenview, Illinois, Kapsimalis led Dayton to a 4-1 week with a .600 average as the Flyers' everyday second baseman. She knocked out her first career home run Saturday in Dayton's first game against Massachusetts, a 9-3 win. In the nightcap, an 11-3 five-inning win, the infielder tallied two home runs and four RBI. She was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate on the day. For the week, Kapsimalis tallied nine hits, including three home runs and two doubles, to go with six RBI and five runs scored while posting a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage. For her efforts, she was honored as the A-10 Player of the Week on Monday.
Dayton student-athletes will continue to be recognized throughout the end of the school year.
