The Flyers Will Return To The Oliver Nikoloff Invitational

DAYTON – The University of Dayton track and field and men's cross country will take a short trip down Interstate 75 to compete in the annual Oliver Nikoloff Invitational at the University of Cincinnati. Here are the start times for this weekend's events:

Friday, March 31, 2023
Field Events: 12:00 p.m.

Saturday, April 1, 2023
Field Events: 11:00 a.m.
Track Events: 12:00 p.m.

At last year's Oliver Nikoloff Invitational, the Flyers took third place out of the 20 schools who were competing. Flyer alum Lainey Studebaker was the standout of that meet because she set the second-best times in UD history for both the 800m and 1500m races. In 2021, Emily Sreenan set her PR 5000m time of 17:06.48 and finished the race in second place. This time stood as the ninth-best time in the A-10 for the 5000m race by the end of the season. As a freshman in 2019, Sreenan also set a PR for the 800m race at 2:17.77 at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational.

The Flyers are coming off of an excellent two-day meet at Eastern Illinois University last Friday and Saturday. There were 22 Flyers that set PRs, five Flyers that took first place in their events, two that wrote themselves into Dayton's history books, and two that earned A-10 weekly awards.

Jadyn Haywood took first place in her collegiate 100m dash debut with her 11.92 second finish. This also became the fourth-best 100m time in Dayton history. This accomplishment along with her second place finish in the 200m dash and first place finish in the 4x100m relay helped her to win A-10 track & field rookie of the week. Lauren Santiago also claimed first place in the 400m hurdles, as she ran an impressive 1:05.43 time in her debut in this event. Santiago also set the fifth-best 400m hurdles time in UD history with her performance on Saturday.

Grace Homan was recognized as the A-10 field athlete of the week because of her exceptional performances in the discus throw and shot put. Homan set a PR in the discus throw, which is now the best discus throw in the A-10. Her shot put and hammer throw performances also scored into the top-10 in the A-10 for their respective events. Abby Carter also won first place in both the 800m and 1500m races, surpassing 69 competitors between the two events. All of these Flyers will aim to set new PRs and build on last weekend's success in Cincinnati this weekend.
