Men’s Soccer Announces 2023 Signing Class

The Flyers Welcome 13 New Players For The Fall

DAYTON – The University of Dayton men's soccer team and head coach Dennis Currier have announced the signing class for the upcoming season.
 
"We are excited to welcome this talented group of student-athletes to the University of Dayton," said head coach Dennis Currier. "They have all the potential to make an impact on our program and compete for minutes this coming season after losing a large group of Seniors. We are enthusiastic to see what they can accomplish on the field and in the classroom."
 
Johannes Eftevaag – Centerback – Kristiansand, Norway – So.
Eftevaag comes to Dayton from Norway where he played in central defense for KKG for two seasons. He played for IK Start and Floy club teams in his development while attending Handelshoyskolen Bl. The 6-2 Norwegian will bring a wealth of experience to the Dayton defense this fall.
 
Justin DiCarlo – Goalkeeper – Canton, Connecticut – Fr.
DiCarlo is a 6-2 goalkeeper from The Hotchkiss School in Connecticut where he was a four-year varsity letterwinner. In his time with the Bearcats, he was named First Team All-State, First Team All-League, and All-Region Honorable Mention. He was a three-year starter and earned the Lucien Swift Strong Memorial Award for Loyalty, Leadership, and Spirit for his team. DiCarlo served as the team captain at Hotchkiss and trained with the Hartford Athletic First Team in the USL Championships.
 
Ahmed Abotrika – Forward – Doha, Qatar – So.
Abotrika comes to Dayton from Qatar and was born in Egypt. He attended the Gems American Academy in Doha and graduated in June 2020. He was the U23 Qatar Gas League Top Scorer in 2021. Abotrika spent time with the Al Arabi Sports Club First Team and Reserves.
 
Jorge Canga – Forward – Dallas, Texas – Fr.
Canga joins the Flyers from Angola via four years at Haltom High School just outside of Dallas, Texas where he was a standout striker. One of nine siblings, Canga lettered all four years with the Buffalo, earning First Team All-District honors twice and was named District Newcomer of the Year. He is the first student from his school to commit to a Division I program.
 
Cooper Lijewski – Forward – Hudson, Wisc. – Fr.
Lijewski is another attacking player who hails from Wisconsin and brings more depth to the front for the Flyers. The 6-0 striker was a part of the Minnesota United MLS Next Academy and competed against the likes of Manchester United in the 2022 GA Cup. Lijewski has made a handful of appearances with the Minnesota United MLS Next Pro squad this spring. He was just as successful in the classroom at River Falls High School where he was National Honor Society as a junior and senior, and earned the Academic Letter Award as a sophomore and junior.
 
Miles Bonham – Midfielder – Upper Arlington, Ohio – Fr.
Bonham comes to UD from the nearby outskirts of Columbus where he was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Golden Bears. The 6-3 midfielder was a First Team All-State honoree this past season as well as First Team All-District the past two years. Bonham earned OCC Central Player of the Year, Second Team All-State, Central Ohio Super 12, and All-Region Team as a junior. He guided his team to the OCC Central title in 2021 and was twice named team captain. Bonham finished his career with 24 goals and 19 assists. Outside of that, he played for multiple club teams including the Columbus Crew Academy.
 
Braden Seel – Midfielder – Glen Carbon, Ill. – Fr.
Seel is a 6-0 central midfielder from Illinois where he was a named 2021 MLS Next Best of Showcase playing for club St. Louis FC. He recorded eight goals and three assists this past season and had 12 goals and 10 assists the year prior. Seel graduated from Edwardsville High School this spring.
 
Cooper Allen – Forward – Plainfield, Ill. – Fr.
Allen is a fellow Illinois native where was a four-year varsity letterwinner at Plainfield North High School. The 5-10 forward set school records with 70 career goals and 171 career points. He was named First Team All-State, All-Conference MVP, All-America Watchlist, All-Sectional, and All-Conference as a senior. Allen also picked up All-Sectional team accolades as a junior and was All-Conference two other times as well. He served as team captain and team MVP as a junior and senior.
 
Sam Siegel – Defender – St. Louis, Mo. – Fr.
Siegel adds depth to the back line for the Flyers, playing mostly at right back for St. Louis FC MLS Next club team. Academically, he was a four-year honor roll student at Ladue Horton Watkins High School. He will look to compete for time this fall on a young unit of defenders.
 
Finn Marchisen – Goalkeeper – Decatur, Ga. - Fr.
Marchisen is a 6-1 shot stopper out of the suburbs of Atlanta and an All-State honoree. He guided Lakeside High School to three regional championships and lettered all four years. Marchisen earned the Viking Academic Award this past year and only started playing goalie in high school. With his club team, he helped his squad to back-to-back ECNL Conference Championships in route to a national championship.
 
Justin Pham – Midfielder – Liverpool, N.Y. – Fr.
Pham is a central attacking midfielder out of the Syracuse, N.Y. area with experience playing for the RNYFC MLS Next squad and MLS Next Pro team. He earned GPS National and Regional team honors while being a member of National Honors Society and serving as junior class and school-wide president. He graduated from Liverpool High School this June.
 
Charlie Newberry – Defender – Frisco, Texas – Fr.
Newberry is a centerback hailing from Frisco, Texas where he played for the F.C. Dallas MLS Next team that won the ECNL Conference Championship in 2021 and 2022. This past year, he played for Solar U19 MLS Next where he started 15 games with 1,335 minutes played and was named a three-star Top Drawer Soccer athlete. Prior to that at Memorial High School, Newberry earned All-District Honors for three straight seasons, as well as MVP Defense in 2021 and MVP Offense and Overall MVP in 2022.
 
Adrian Biaggi – Midfielder - Daytona, Fla. – Fr.
Biaggi is a 6-0 midfielder from DME Academy in Florida where he served as team captain and lettered for three years. The former U15 Puerto Rico National Team player is a member of the AS Frenzi club team in the UPSL and guided his team to the Florida South semifinals. A student of the game, Biaggi earned National Honor Society as a student in the classroom as well.
