Sam Webster Named PFL Player Of The Week

Fifth-Year Placekicker Scored 12 Points In Saturday’s Win

ST. LOUIS – University of Dayton placekicker Sam Webster was named the Pioneer Football League's Special Teams Player of the Week for the third time in his career after his performance in UD's 62-24  win over Central State on Saturday.

Webster, a graduate student from Richfield, Ohio, was six-for-six on PATs, and connected on field goals from 47 and 37 yards.  His 47-yard field goal came after Central State had cut a once 27-point lead to 12 points.  It returned the momentum back to UD and started a 26-0 Dayton scoring burst to end the game.

The 47-yard field goal was also the second-longest of Webster's career, only behind the 53-yarder that was his first college kick in the 2019 season opener.

Webster is one of 34 placekickers on the preseason Watch List for the Fred Mitchell Award, which goes to the top kicking specialist at the FCS, NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA levels.

He is among the top kickers in Dayton history.  He is ninth in career scoring (all positions) with 225 points, sixth in FG accuracy (73%, 32-44), fourth in PAT accuracy (96.1%, 129-134), fourth in career field goals (32) and third in kick scoring.

Webster is completing his eligibility as a grad student in UD's MBA program, after graduating Cum Laude in Finance last spring.

Dayton hosts Taylor on Saturday in the final non-conference game of the 2023 season.  Game time is 1 p.m. ET.
