FAIRBORN, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's cross country team claimed third place at their regular season opener at Wright State University. Abby Carter had an exceptional start to her season by earning second place while newcomer Cara Mooney took sixth place in her collegiate debut.

"... Today, I'm most proud of our freshmen for coming out for their very first collegiate meet," beamed Carter. "They all kicked butt and did amazing! We had a couple of big PRs, including Cara who got top 10 UD all-time. I'm so incredibly proud of her, all the rest of our freshmen, and all of our girls who stayed so incredibly tough on this hot day and were able to complete such a fun, challenging race."

Carter set a new PR for the 5K with her second-place time of 17:28.7. She also moved up in the UD all-time 5K list from ninth to seventh. Mooney followed suit by earning the 10th-best 5K in school history with her 17:37.2 time. Mooney said "I'm most proud of us being able to stick together for a really long time… and I feel like we really pushed each other today." Zoe Chappelle and Marissa Pritchett rounded out the top 25 by finishing in 18th and 21st, respectively. Chappelle finished the 5K in 18:30.0 while Pritchett crossed the line at 18:38.7.

The Flyers will compete in their next meet on Saturday, September 16 at Indiana State University in the John McNichols Invitational.
