DAYTON - The No. 15/18 University of Dayton men's soccer team defeated Saint Louis University Saturday night in the regular season finale, 4-1.
The Flyers (10-2-3, 5-1-2 A-10) finished second in the Atlantic 10 standings while the Billikens (7-3-7, 4-1-3 A-10) suffered their first conference loss of the year.
SCORING BREAKDOWN
- 38:18 – Senior Ethan Sassine broke the deadlock in the final stages of the first half with a well-placed redirect off the cross form freshman Felix Buabeng.
- 47:40 – Senior Joseph Melto Quiah doubled the Flyers' lead with a strike to the far corner off the assist from sophomore Martin Bakken.
- 53:54 – An own goal by the Billikens made it 3-0 in favor of the Flyers.
- 66:11 – Sassine gets his second of the game with a rocket to the left net off the precision pass from Melto Quiah.
- 71:03 – A SLU rebounded shot off the post was put in the back of the net to break up the shutout for the Flyers
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Dayton outshot Saint Louis 20-8 and put eight on target to the Billikens' three on goal.
- Bakken had a team-high four shots while Sassine and Armstrong both had three apiece.
- Fouls were 16-10 in favor of SLU.
- There were four cautions, three by the Billikens.
- Sassine scored his scored his fourth and fifth goals of the year while Melto Quiah got his seventh.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"We had such a good season," said head coach
Dennis Currier. "We faced two big-time opponents and heavyweights here and the guys placed tremendous tonight. I thought probably our best performance and they are a very good team. To finish like we did tonight and get a great conference win and a great crowd. I'm just really excited for the team and it's a great way to end the regular season, and get some momentum going into the postseason."

- The No. 2 seed Flyers will host the A-10 Championship first round on Friday, Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. at Baujan Field against No. 7 seed Davidson.
