#UDTF Travels To Capital And Michigan

Throwers Will Compete Friday At Capital And Sprinters/Jumpers Will Compete Saturday At Michigan

DAYTON - University of Dayton track and field will return to action this Friday and Saturday. On Friday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio throwers will compete at the Capital Center Field House on the campus of Capital University for the Wilf Schnier Alumni Classic. Saturday, UD sprinters and jumpers will start 2026 in Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Wolverine Invitational hosted by the University of Michigan.

LAST TIME OUT
On December 6, the Flyers competed at the Wittenberg Tiger Opener in Springfield, Ohio. Dayton freshman Simone Bessong was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for her performance. In her collegiate debut, the Florence, Kentucky native finished second in the 60m dash with a 7.48, the third-fastest time in Dayton history. Bessong also contributed to a record-setting performance in the 4x200 relay, teaming up with Charlotte Deines, Jadyn Haywood, and Sydney Workman to break the school record with a time of 1:38.94. The 4x400 team also made history when Mariya Washington, Workman, Lianna Shakoor, and Grace Felts won the race in a time of 3:51.10, the second fastest mark in program history. Junior Camryn Thompson and sophomore Riley Yost took the top two spots in the high jump with personal best marks of 1.71m and 1.65m respectively.

FLYERS IN ACTION
On Friday, the Flyers will compete in the weight throw and shot put at the Wilf Schnier Alumni Classic. Last year, Anna Yater finished fifth in the weight throw (17.12m) at the A-10 Indoor Championships. Chloe Hansen will make her collegiate debut and graduate student Elaina Panagakos is scheduled to make her Flyers debut after transferring from the University of Maine.  On Saturday, 17 athletes are listed to compete at the Wolverine Invitational. Jadyn Haywood looks to have another big year at Michigan, last season she finished second in the 60m dash and took third in the 200m.
