#UDTF Wins First Ever A-10 Outdoor Championship

Flyers Score 153 Points At A-10 Outdoor Championships To Claim Team Title

FAIRFAX, Va.- University of Dayton track and field captured its first-ever A-10 outdoor team championship in Fairfax, Va., on Sunday. The Flyers scored 153 points over the course of the weekend to win the title by a convincing 44-point margin.
 
For the second consecutive year, Jadyn Haywood earned Track Performer of the Year honors for her double victory performance. Simone Bessong was named the Rookie of the Year in the conference after earning four medals on the weekend. Associate Head Coaches Aaron Gordon and Kevin Gilhuly were named as A-10 Coaches of the Year.
 
The Flyers won 15 individual medals on their way to the historic victory. The medalists were highlighted by victories from Rebekah Conrad and two from Haywood. UD athletes also set seven school records over the weekend, three of which were set by Jameson Pillifant in the hurdles events.
 
Highlights
  • Senior Jadyn Haywood defended her A-10 title in both the 100m and 200m as she ran 11.60 to take the top spot in the 100m and 24.08 to win the gold in the 200m.
  • Senior Rebekah Conrad won a pair of A-10 titles, one in the shot put with an impressive PR of 13.76m and another in the discus with a personal best mark of 47.41, which is fifth in program history.
  • Junior Camryn Thompson tied a bow on the team title on Sunday as she finished in the silver medal position in the last event of the meet, the high jump, with a mark of 1.78m, setting a new school record and qualifying for the NCAA Regionals.
  • Freshman Simone Bessong earned four medals on the weekend. She was the runner-up, behind Haywood, in the 200m with a time of 24.26. She finished third in the 100m with a time of 11.80. The freshman also anchored the 4x400m team that took home the title and was a member of the runner-up 4x100m team.
  • Senior Raegan Ernst finished third in the heptathlon, setting a school record with 4,953 points. Sophomore Mia Malito finished fourth in the multi-event with a personal best of 4,770 points, the third-best mark in school history. 
  • Ernst and Sophomore Jameson Pillifant finished second and third in the 100m hurdles, just .01 seconds apart at 14.25 and 14.26, respectively.
  • Pillifant broke her own school record in the 400m hurdles, running 59.42 to finish second and become the first Flyer ever under the one-minute mark in the event.
  • The Flyers earned three relay medals on Sunday. The 4x100m team of Chloe Hamilton, Bessong, Sydney Workman, and Haywood finished second with a time of 46.23, the 4x800m team of Anna Newkirk, Cara Mooney, Reese Kohnle, and Mia Gill finished third in 8:54.08, the second fastest time in school history, and the 4x400m squad of Mariya Washington, Workman, Grace Felts, and Bessong set a school record of 3:45.17 to claim the A-10 championship in that event.
  • Senior Anna Yater finished second in the shot put with a PR of 13.28m.
