Champaign, Ill - The University of Dayton track and field team took home seventh place this weekend while participating in the Central Collegiate Championships in Champaign, Ill. Junior Kelly Pohlman (Versailles, OH) finished highest for the Flyers, as she took home a silver in the shot put and a bronze in the weight throw.
Illinois University took home the team victory as they finished with 213 points in 17 events that were scored. Kent State finished second with 95 points, followed by Vanderbilt in third place (58), then Missouri Baptist College (52.66), Western Illinois (40.5), Wisconsin Milwaukee (29.33), Dayton (19), DePaul (15) and Wright State (1.5).
Pohlman's distance of 47-07 in the shot put won her the silver medal. Freshman Connie Fleming (Valrico, FL) finished 13th with a throw of 35-3.25. In the weight throw, Pohlman finished with 16.35m, which placed here in third place.
In the Pentathlon, sophomore Candance McKinley (Helotes, TX) came up short of a medal by one spot as she finished in fourth place. Senior Sally Sauerenheimer (Lancaster, OH) finished in ninth place.
Sophomore Micella Davis (Helotes, TX) ran the 200m dash in a time of 27.19, to put her in 18th place in the event.
In the 60m dash, junior Stacia Harold (Urbana, IL) was the top finisher for UD as she came in ninth place with a time of 7.92. Sophomore Lindsey Brown (Clarksville, IN) finished with a time of 7.99, which placed her 12th. Lastly, senior Aftan Delaney (Bellbrook, OH) finished in 14th place with a time of 8.18.
UD had two participants in the 5000m run. Sophomore Allison Smith (Beverly Hills, MI) finished in seventh place with a time of 19:58.28 and sophomore Amanda Tucker (Dublin, OH) finished right behind her in eight place with a time of 20:00.28.
Junior Sarah Kessler (Reynoldsburg, OH) finished the 1 mile run in 15th place with a time of 5:25.06. Her teammate, junior Kate Mone (Cleveland, OH) finished with a time of 5:57.94, which placed her 15th.
In the 800m run, sophomore Meg Watkins (Bel Air, MD) finished in 11th place (2:24.18). Freshman Bridget Kuhel (Columbus, OH) finished in 15th place (2:30.99). Sophomore Emily Haas (Chesterton, IN) finished in 17th place for the Flyers, with a time of 2:39.30.
In the High Jump, freshman Megan Sweeney finished sixth with a height of 1.5m. Her teammate Kristen Lauer (Boardman, OH) finished in seventh place, also with a height of 1.5m.
Sophomore Tara Hentgen (Frederick, MD)participated in the Triple Jump for the Flyers. However, she fouled while attempting the jump.
The Flyers will be back in action Saturday at the Findlay Invitational in Findlay, OH.
