DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton controlled the tempo throughout most of the match and swept Rhode Island, 3-0 (30-19, 30-19, 30-24) to clinch the Atlantic 10 West Division Volleyball Championship on Friday night at Frericks Center.

The two-time defending Atlantic 10 Tournament Champion Flyers (17-9, 10-1 A-10) also earned themselves a berth in the 2006 A-10 Tournament ironically by defeating the host school Rhode Island, which fell to 6-17 overall and 1-9 in Atlantic 10 play. Dayton has now won its A-10 Regular Season Championship in each of the past two years under the direction of third-year Head Coach Tim Horsmon.

UD also stretched its winning streak to 12 consecutive matches, which is the longest streak in program history since the 2001 season when Dayton won 14 in a row en route to another Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.

Robynne Green led the Flyers with 18 kills on just 25 attempts for a .720 hitting percentage. The sophomore also led all players with six blocks while adding four digs.

UD hit .316 to the Rams' .107 as senior Nicole Schott dished out 42 assists to six different Flyers.

Freshman Kortney Norris finished with nine kills while hitting .333. She was followed by junior Faye Barhorst with eight kills in 10 attempts with no errors. Each player also garnered four blocks a piece.

Defensively, Adrienne Green posted a team-high 11 digs to go along with three service aces. Freshman Mandy Robbe ended the night with eight digs of her own.

Dayton closes out its Atlantic 10 regular season schedule next weekend with a pair of road matches. The Flyers head to Saint Louis on Friday for an 8 p.m. Eastern Time start followed by a matchup with Duquesne on Sunday at 1 p.m. A win by the Flyers in either of the two matches would secure them the top seed in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
