The University of Dayton Flyers used strong scoring off the bench, domination inside and high percentage field goal shooting to beat the Morehead State Eagles by the score of 67-41 at UD Arena Wednesday night. Dayton's non-starters outscored their counterparts 39-6, the Flyers held a 46-12 advantage in points in the paint, and UD shot 57.1% (28-49) from the field.

Leading the way in all three categories was freshman center Desmond Adedeji, who came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points, making all six of his shots from point-blank range. Adedeji did not play in the season's first game, and then scored two points in 11 minutes in his first action last Monday at Miami. In the win over Morehead, he came off the bench to play 15 minutes and grab five rebounds in addition to his 13 points. He scored 11 of his points in 10 minutes of play in the second half.

Junior forward Monty Scott added 11 points. Norman Plummer led Dayton in rebounding for the second straight game with seven boards (and nine points). And Warren Williams and Brian Roberts both had five assists. Seven players scored at least five points, and ten played at least 10 minutes. No Flyer played more than 28 minutes.

MSU scored the first five points of the game and led 8-2 when UD kicked it into gear. Dayton outscored the Eagles 17-2 over a nine-minute span. Jimmy Binnie started the spurt by grabbing an offensive rebound, putting in a bucket and a free throw when he was fouled on the play. Chris Alvarez scored six of the next eight points, including the stickback that put the Flyers up for good with 14:36 left in the first half.

UD took a 31-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. Morehead scored the first hoop of the second half to make it a 10-point game, but Scott erased any suspense on two fronts by scoring the last seven points of a 9-0 run that put Dayton up 40-21 with 15:02 left. Not only did Scott's burst put the Flyers in command, but he also made UD's first (and only) three-pointer of the night, extending Dayton's string of games with at least one three-point basket to 497 games. That's the ninth-longest such streak in Division I.

The Flyers pushed, and kept, the lead above 20 points over the last 9:26 of the game.

UD's next two games will be on the road against two teams that played in last year's NCAA tournament. Dayton will play at Creighton on Saturday and Cincinnati on Tuesday before returning home to square off against Pepperdine on Thursday, December 1. The Flyers will begin the 2005-06 season with seven contests in the first 16 days of the year, and nine in the first 23.
