NEW UD TRACK COACH NAMED AMERICAN SOUTHWEST COACH OF THE YEAR

April 25, 2005

New University of Dayton women's track and field Kandice Erwin was named American Southwest Conference Coach of the Year after guiding Texas Lutheran University to its first-ever ASC track and field championship on Saturday.

In her final full meet for Texas Lutheran, Erwin's team edged six-time defending conference champion McMurry by six points, 264.50 to 258.50. It was a TLU's first track championship after three straight second-place conference finishes in her first three seasons. The Bulldogs sealed their conference title with a victory in the final event, the 4x400 meter relay.

In her four years at Texas Lutheran, the Bulldogs won three ASC women's cross country titles and one ASC women's track & field title. She was a four-time conference coach of the year (three cross country, one track).

Erwin will coach the Bulldogs' national qualifiers at the 2005 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships May 26-28 in Waverly, Iowa.
