TRACK AND FIELD START OFF OUTDOOR SEASON

Cincinnati, OH - The University of Dayton's Track and Field team started off its outdoor season Saturday in Cincinnati at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. They finished in seventh place out of 11 teams. Junior Kelly Pohlman (Versialles, OH) had the top finish for the Flyers as she won the silver medal in the shot put.

Eastern Michigan won the event with 155 points. The University of Cincinnati finished in second place with 150 points, followed by Bowling Green State University in third (133), University of Detroit Mercy in fourth (72), Eastern Kentucky University in fifth (67) and Western Kentucky University in sixth (59). Dayton finished in seventh with 34 points, beating out Indiana University-Purdue University in eighth (24), Wright State University in ninth (22), BG Track Club in tenth, (11) and Xavier University of eleventh (8).

Pohlman throw of 13.97m in the shot put landed her in second place. She also finished in fifth place in the discus throw with a distance of 38.83m and seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.78m.

Freshman Megan Sweeney (Cincinnati, OH) finished in a tie for third place in the high jump with a height of 1.53m.

Sophomore Candace McKinley (Helotes, TX) scored a distance of 5.35m in the long jump, putting her in fifth place. Another sophomore Liz Forster (Reynoldsburg, OH) finished in fifth place in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.84.

In the 100m dash, senior Aftan Delaney (Bellbrook, OH) finished in eleventh place with a time of 12.73, followed by her teammate, junior Stacia Harold (Urbana, IL) in 12th place with a time of 12.80.

The Flyers' next meet will be the Michigan State Meet in East Lansing on Saturday.
