BONNIES BEAT FLYERS, 7-2

DAYTON, Ohio - A five-run third inning propelled St. Bonaventure to a 7-2 victory over Dayton in the opener of a three-game Atlantic10 Conference baseball series on Friday. The Flyers (10-12, 1-3 A-10) and Bonnies (7-6, 3-1 A-10) will resume the series on Saturday at Time Warner Cable Stadium. Saturday's start time has been changed to 1 p.m. ET.

The visiting Bonnies broke the game open in the third with five runs on four hits. Overall, Bona sent nine batters to the plate in the third and added two more runs in the fourth off UD starter Luke Trubee who fell to 2-4 with the loss. Trubee struck out nine batters but gave up 11 hits in 6.1 innings pitched for the Flyers. The Preseason All-America pitcher now ranks fifth all-time in UD history with 172 career strikeouts.

Junior Cale Ort and freshman Sean Finn finished the day on the mound for UD. Ort gave up two hits while striking out one in 1.2 innings pitched. Finn struck out another Bonnie in a perfect ninth inning for the Flyers.

Dayton had seven hits of its own including 2-for-4 afternoons by Joe McSoley and Bryan Chandler. McSoley singled through the left side in the fifth and scored on a RBI single by Chandler for UD's first run of the game.

Senior Galen Schumm smacked a solo home run with two outs in the eighth inning to make the score 7-2. The blast was Schumm's first homer of the season and was the only extra base hit of the contest for Dayton.
