DAYTON, Ohio - Homestanding Dayton rallied after losing the opener, 7-2, to beat Fordham, 3-1, in finale of an Atlantic 10 baseball doubleheader on Sunday at Time Warner Cable Stadium. The Flyers are now 15-19 overall and are tied for sixth place in the A-10 with a 5-7 conference mark.
UD had a pair of solid starts from its pitching staff on the afternoon. Sophomore
Quinn Haselhorst allowed three earned runs while striking out eight batters in the opener. The lefthander scattered eight hits over 7.1 innings pitched in the loss for the Flyers.
Cole Tyrell was 3-for-5 with a double while
Michael Massa went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in the opener as Dayton matched Fordham with nine hits a piece.
Sophomore
Sean Finn fanned six batters while surrendering just one run while improving to 2-2 on the year. The righty had the longest outing in a conference outing during his career with 8.1 innings pitched.
Bobby Getty finished 3-for-3 with a walk and a RBI while
Myles Swartzel was 2-for-3 as Dayton won its second conference series in four attempts.
The Flyers return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference game at Bowling Green at 3 p.m. ET. Then UD heads to nationally-ranked Charlotte next weekend for a three-game A-10 series on Friday (6 p.m. ET), Saturday (2 p.m. ET) and Sunday (Noon ET).
