FLYERS FINISH SECOND AT ATLANTIC 10 INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS

Complete A-10 Indoor Track and Field Championship Results

DAYTON, Ohio - The women's track and field team took second place at the Atlantic 10 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday in Kingston, RI. It was the best ever finish for UD at the event. The Flyers posted 12 personal bests and received top-five finishes in 11 events at the tournament.

The team tallied 91 points overall as the Flyers finished second to the defending champion Charlotte 49ers, who were also heavily favored at this years championships.

Personal Bests were recorded by sophomores Lauren McCormick (7.01) and Brittany Thomas (7.16) in the 55 meter dash. Each runner scored in the finals for the team, as McCormick placed third overall in the event. McCormick also finished sixth in the 200 meter race.

Junior Andrea Cornell was the only placer for Dayton in the hurdles, as the veteran took fifth overall in the 55 meter event. It was a personal best performance for Cornell, who turned in a time of 8.39.

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Ashley Cattran continued her rookie season success finishing fourth in 58.20 for the Flyers. Junior Stacy Chew came in just behind with a personal best time of 58.75, which was good for sixth place.

The Flyers also saw personal best success in the distance events.

Freshman Brigitte Sherman finished sixth in 5:00.92, while classmate Liz Coorey came in eighth with a time of 5:02.46 as each established personal records in the mile run.

Sherman was also the only Flyer to score in the 1,000 meter run, as the rookie set another personal best of 2:59.12 to finish fifth.

Another freshman, Maureen Bulgrin, posted a personal record of 10:16.44 and took seventh in the 3,000 meter run.

Junior Anne Oltman also set a personal best; the junior ran well in the 5,000 meter competition, crossing the line in 11th place with a time of 18:26.76.

In team events the Dayton 4x400 runners were disqualified, but the 4x800 and distance medley each set season records. The 4x800 relay team, comprised of three freshmen and one sophomore, took fifth overall in a season best time of 9:23.73. The distance medley runners took third overall in 12:24.66, also setting a season best time in the process.

The Flyers clinched a second place finish with a stellar performance in the field events. UD recorded 47 of its 91 points in the six competitions.

Amy Kremer placed in the high jump for the third consecutive season, as the junior took third overall with a leap of 5-05.00.

Sophomore Katie DeVault tied teammate Pembroke Strickland as the top finisher in the pole vaulting event. DeVault finished fifth overall by rising to 10-04.00. Strickland soared to the same height and also scored for the Flyers.

Sophomore Andrea Funk lept 36-08.50 to take fifth in the triple jump.

Then freshman Johnna Zaccari tossed the shot put 46-04.25 to capture the conference title, as sophomore Sarah Allen finished second (44-09.00). Freshman Mallory Barnes also scored with an eighth place finish toss of 38-07.25.

Barnes took third in the weight throw as well, as the rookie logged a distance of 55-05.00.

The Flyers will now have nearly a month off before beginning their outdoor season at the CCU Invitational in Conway, South Carolina on March 15.
