TRACK & FIELD WRAPS UP BUSY WEEKEND AT TWO MEETS

The University of Dayton track & field squad split up for the weekend with the distance runners heading to Hillsdale, Mich., while the rest of the team competed at the Stan Lyons Invitational hosted by Butler University in Indianapolis. Neither meet utilized team scoring.

At the Hillsdale relays, junior Ellen Nienhaus posted a season-best time and took first in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (11:33.76).

Dayton's 4x800 team also fared well with a second place finish (9:15.53).

The Flyers also had two top-ten finishes in the 1,500 meter run, where freshmen Brigitte Sherman and Liz Coorey took fifth and seventh, respectively. Sherman posted a season-best time of 4:43.23, while Coorey crossed the line in 4:44.14.

Another freshman, Maureen Bulgrin, secured seventh place in the 3,000 meter run with a season best time of 10:18.25.

At the Stan Lyons Invitational, the sophomore tandem of Brittany Thomas and Lauren McCormick notched top-ten finishes in the 100 meter dash. McCormick ran a season-best time of 12.14, good for a fifth place finish, while Thomas turned in a personal best time of 12.20 to seal seventh position.

McCormick also placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.29.

In the 400 meter dash, freshman Ashley Cattran (56.49) scored a second place finish, while junior Stacy Chew (59.28) came in sixth.

Junior Andrea Cornell continued her fine spring season with a fifth-place finish in the 100 meter hurdles. The hurdling specialist crossed the finish line in 14.55, which was a personal best time.

In the field events, senior high jumper Megan Sweeney tied for third with a season-best leap of 5-05.00, and in the triple jump, sophomore Andrea Funk (36.02.00) finished in fifth position.

Two personal records were achieved by the shot putters, as freshman Johnna Zaccari took sixth (44-10.75), while sophomore Sarah Allen hurled a toss of 44-04.00.

Javelin thrower Emily Krizmanic, a sophomore, recorded a distance of 96-07 to tie for ninth place in the event.

The team will next head to Amherst, Mass. for the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, which will be hosted by the University of Massachusetts. The meet is scheduled to last all-day Saturday and Sunday.
